Pro gun GONE?

Post by Lance Kennedy » Wed Jan 09, 2019 8:29 pm

With the departure of such people as Xouper, this forum topic has become very quiet. Is it that everyone left is now sane enough to recognize that free access to guns is harmful?

.............and there it is. The illusion of protecting yourself, when the TRUTH is so readily determinable as the opposite. Emotions vs hard data. I know: facts are pesky things. Heres a big rub contra though: You: Gord might be right "for yourself." Problem is, the irresponsible gun nuts think the same thing. You add them all up and "society" is better off with gun restrictions even where the truth is: YOU/GORD are not.

SO....should the law be based on what is good for society, or what is good for Gord?

I feel the same way about Salmonella infected turtles, so you aren't alone. ALL PUBLIC SAFETY regulations have this characteristics. Guns no different except they are supported by erroneous Supreme Court rulings. Gotta love the Supremes.

I have never touched a gun, as I promised my father I never would. I will ask my son, Auguste, to make the same promise.

Hopefully guns, like spitting will imply fade away or became an embarrassing hobby over a couple generations.

Yea, verily.......but not in the USA until the Supremes sing a different tune. One huge area of the law.........they simply got wrong.....almost objectively speaking. You have to "ignore" words in the Constitution to find a private right to own guns..................IMO.

The US Supreme Court judges are political appointees. The version that declared possession of guns to be a human right were under George W. Bush, who received a massive cash injection to his campaign funds from the NRA. So ultimately it boils down to political corruption.

Its more tenuous than that.................but close enough. It will eventually be overturned. Gallons of innocent blood won't do it....until it sloshes on your shoes.........."you" being the Supremes.

The only member who made guns his only topic was "RanB". He left, as we don't have enough people interested in guns to keep a discussion going. He posts on ISF as that forum has more people interested in talking about guns

I don't think there is that much to talk about. I think the removal of guns is simply a slow process like the reduction of farting, smoking or spitting in public. It will take decades.

In the USA, the number of guns purchased keeps increasing, while the number of gun owners is on a slow decline. One group is stockpiling for the apocalypes while the other is making rational decisions.

anyone predict a clash?

The US could learn from New Zealand – what was once legal will no longer be so after April 11; those who were once law-abiding will be criminals after that date if they do not relinquish their military assault rifles. If they don’t, they were criminals in waiting all along.

If the USA could learn, we would have learned from every other Western Country with legitimate gun control/enforcement laws, with of course the Australian example being virtuallyt he same situation leading the way for New Zealand..........and some day the USA. problem: if all it took was legislation, the USA would have done so a long time ago, but we enshrined guns in our Constitution........or should I say we enshrined MUSKETS. I notice Chris Matthews is making this point 2-3 times a week on his MSNBC show. AKA: Original Intent of the Framers: did it include automatic weapons?

Reasonable people can not disagree on this point. "criminals in waiting all along" pretty well sums it up.

The USA public is made weak by having all these "civilian" guns available. Its a drug to think guns keep you safe in any manner. Its how YOU are being controlled now. Wake up.........or may not: stay asleep.

Those who believe they need firearms to keep the government under control are enemies of society, and enemies of all decent human beings. Studies show clearly that taking up arms against repression makes matters worse, like modern day Syria. While peaceful protest and civil disobedience achieves wonders, like Martin Luther King.

this and most countries were founded on guns....without guns the u.s. wouldn't exist..."What country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance. Let them take arms."
- Thomas Jefferson, letter to James Madison, December 20, 1787------------"To disarm the people...s the most effectual way to enslave them."
- George Mason, referencing advice given to the British Parliament by Pennsylvania governor Sir William Keith, The Debates in the Several State Conventions on the Adooption of the Federal Constitution, June 14, 1788 --------The right of the citizens to keep and bear arms has justly been considered, as the palladium of the liberties of a republic; since it offers a strong moral check against the usurpation and arbitrary power of rulers; and will generally, even if these are successful in the first instance, enable the people to resist and triumph over them."
- Joseph Story, Commentaries on the Constitution of the United States, 1833

Gorgeous

The American War of Independance was a typical tragedy. It began with a series of defeats, with numerous deaths and massive destruction of Americans and their property. The only thing that turned the tide was French intervention, both in the colonies and back in Europe. Any future arms intervention by Americans against a tyrannical government will not have a superpower come to their aid, and the result will be terrible.

The USA has the loosest gun laws among western nations, and by far the highest murder rate. Half those murders done with hand guns. That is no coincidence. Let idiots have guns and they will use them.
