Trump (in regards to firing Mueller)
“Article II (of the Constitution) let’s me do what I want!!!!”
Question for Groening by a reporter:
“Mr. Groening, what do you say to those who still deny the Holocaust?”

Groening:
“Nothing. They are hopelessly lost.”

Harvard Crimson (on why it refused to run an add by Bradley Smith):
“(It is) vicious propaganda based on utter BS that has been discredited time and time again.”

In May 2018, the Federalist Society hosted a phone call entitled "examining the legality of the Mueller Investigation", where one of the featured speakers has argued that Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election is unconstitutional.[32]

Article II

Section 1. The executive Power shall be vested in a President of the United States of America. He shall hold his Office during the Term of four Years, or Longer, at His sole discretion, and, together with the Vice President, chosen for the same Term, be elected, or not, if, once elected, He should not see fit to allow elections.

The President shall, at stated Times, receive for his Services, a Compensation, plus Income from his many businesses which he shall as executive promote, and Market and Shill For, and he shall receive within that Period many other Emoluments from the United States, and from foreign states.

Section 2. The President shall be Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy of the United States, and of the Militia of the several States, when called into the actual Service of the United States, and of the people residing therein; he may require the Opinion, in writing, of the principal Officer in each of the executive Departments, upon any Subject relating to the Duties of their respective Offices, but more important he shall tweet his Opinion of them. Periodically such Officers will give Ritual Praise for the President.

He shall have Power to grant Reprieves and Pardons for Offenses against the United States, except in Cases of Impeachment - but Impeachment cases shall not exist; he shall have Power to pardon himself for his many Offenses against the United States and for his Offensiveness. In cases involving Himself or his appointees, he may obstruct any Efforts at Justice that may occur.

He shall have Power, by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, to make Treaties, provided two thirds of the Senators present concur; and he shall nominate, and by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, shall appoint Ambassadors, other public Ministers and Consuls, Judges of the supreme Court, and all other Officers of the United States, whose Appointments are not herein otherwise provided for, and which shall be established by Law: but the Congress may by Law vest the Appointment of such inferior Officers, as they think proper, in the President alone, in the Courts of Law, or in the Heads of Departments. Scratch this: he shall appoint Senators who shall Approve his Actions and make speeches praising Him.

Section 3. He shall from time to time give to the Congress Information of the State of the Union, which need not be Accurate, and dictate to them Which Measures they must enact; if they fail to enact Such Measures, he shall Close Down the Government.

He shall receive Ambassadors and other public Ministers; he shall brag to those he receives about his Illegal Actions and also Reveal State Secrets to them; he shall not Care that the Laws be faithfully executed, and shall Commission all the Officers of the United States. He shall tweet about Crime in London and attribute to Muslims there such Crime.

Section 4. The President, Vice President and all civil Officers of the United States, may not be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors, or on any other Grounds, be they criminal, dereliction of duty, or incompetence.

Section 5. Together and as a whole and severally, and more importantly, these sections of this Article allow the President to do whatever he wants.

He dares call it treason . . .

The debasing of language and concepts that is core to Trump's practices - and which no Trump supporter here has even bothered trying to defend - creates a kind of "discourse rot" in which anything goes, so far as it is backed with sufficient malice and fire power: may the biggest liar prevail.

"Treason" charges are one such a debasement. This is what I wrote back in February 2017, right after our nation's humiliating inauguration of Bloatus, about use of the term treason against Trumpies (in this case, Flynn - IIRC Brennan, Seth Moulton, and a few other Trump critics later described Trump's actions as treasonous - The Daily Beast was even arsed to run a column in 2018 entitled "Stop Saying Trump Committed ‘Treason.’ . . .").

The same applies now - but with the difference that the chief executive of the country is well into a campaign of vilification and dishonesty based on lying about both his political opponents and some appointees he's tired of, branding them treasonous. Trump's decision to go all in on treason is meant to turbocharge his re-election campaign, encourage his followers, isolate those he finds inconvenient, and abet his scorched-earth war against political opponents. And most likely too to create rot, confuse issues, and advantage his own serial lying.

Axios has compiled a list of "The 24 times Trump has accused somebody of 'treason'." And VOX has done one of its backgrounders on Trump's assault on language and law in his accusations of treason.

The fact that Trump wants to control the term 'treason' strongly suggests that he is worried that it will be applied to him in the run-up to 2020.

My hope, and it's a pretty far fetched one, is that we sober up when Trump is gone and start enumerating the restrictions on the President that up until now have been by tradition. Legally require financial disclosures, tighten up the emoluments clause, sunset things like the AUMF on Iran, more power to the justice department, votes of confidence that can be called mid term.

Which is weird and revealing since the US is not at war and the treason clause of the Constitution is inapplicable: but . . . guilty mind?

Dictionary Skills and Playing games:

Treason: 1. A crime that undermines the offender's government
2. Disloyalty by virtue of subversive behavior
3. An act of deliberate betrayal

POLITICS and daily discourse is NOT BASED on Constitutional or Criminal Law. Only manipulators play this game for the purposes they have. If a WORD has no application in one context: then you look for the context in which it does apply.

Get real with yourself.

Well, it probably also makes a difference who is saying those things. Trump's crooked and insecure victim mentality spouts it all the time, but should a top Executive do the same? Does it (should it) have a different meaning then?

Saying things... job numbers reportedly stand at a 3.6(?) low - yet job losses are reported just about everywhere (like in StatMech's earlier post). How does that match up?

.............and this kind of issue is how Trump is Trump, the media is elitist and out of touch, and "the truth" is made irrelevant.

I had a brief association with a company run by staunch Mormons. Although they didn't practice religious discrimination openly, they were known for firing employees for uttering one mild curse word. Non-Mormon employees were set upon and strongly urged to join the LDS church. One of the quickest ways to uningratiate yourself with the company was to say anything less than adulatory about Donald Trump. Apparently all his sins are forgivable due to the fact that he "isn't Hillary."

Brad Parscale, commenting on the internal polling of the Trump campaign, observed that Barr's dishonest summary is so important for 2020 and explained a bit of how Trump and his gang plan to use it: “These leaked numbers are ancient, in campaign terms, from months-old polling that began in March before two major events had occurred: the release of the summary of the Mueller report exonerating the President and . . ."

Just got a whiff of what Ohio voters are telling Chris Matthews - same things we've heard for the last 2.5 years and straight outta the FAUX hole. ("If I wanted to vote for a preacher, I'd have voted for a preacher." Who ran? This guy?). And those who're saying they're better off now seem to mean that, so far, they have survived the rising gas and other prices...

Harvard rescinds admission of high-profile Parkland student:
Harvard reserves the right to rescind offers under certain circumstances, such as if students fail to graduate from high school, misrepresented information on their applications or engaged in behavior that raises questions about their moral character.

In 2017, at least 10 prospective students had their admissions offers rescinded, and the Harvard Crimson reported that those students had traded explicit and racially offensive messages in a private Facebook group.

I had a related if somewhat different experience with my college applications. During high school I was very active in the antiwar movement. My activism led to all kinds of run-ins with my high school's administration - and eventually one administrator contacted all the colleges and universities to which I'd applied, sending a package of information (filled with errors, I might add) on how dangerous and ill-behaved I was. I was ill-behaved, I will grant that.

One school, to which I'd been granted early admission, rescinded their offer. Two schools wrote to me saying that the package wouldn't figure in their decision (I was admitted to one and not the other). Finally, one college informed me that I'd been rejected but that the rejection letter hadn't been sent - they asked me to come for a repeat interview where we could discuss the package of information so that they might reconsider their rejection. LOL Btw I sent out zero tweets about this . . .

(all bold is mine, mwahahahahaaaaa)
For context, ratings for ABC's Trump special were considerably lower than for the program that normally airs in the time slot, "Celebrity Family Feud," which generated 6.1 million viewers the previous Sunday.
well, there's yer state of the onion...
The Trump ABC interview also lost some of its lead-in audience from a repeat of "America's Funniest Home Videos," which took in 3.5 million viewers.
