Not sure if I’m going to get anything else for awhile. I think my reading is pretty set. I’ve also got some library books to read.
A sober appraisal would put Himmler himself in the racially average band, or to some extent even below it: his face was round rather than oval, his nose more broad than slim, his normal bearing more ‘sagging’ than erect...
Longerich: Himmler

Hhhhhhhmmmmmm, is it possible that Carlo Mattogno is the greatest scholar the world has ever known?

Ordered “The Final Solution: The Attempt to Exterminate the Jews of Europe” by Reitlinger (1961 publish date) and “Harvest of Hate: The Nazi Program for the Destruction of the Jews” by L. Poliakov (1954 publish date, 1st edition).
Although dated, both books are excellent reads.
I also purchased the Kindle version of Wendy Lower’s “Nazi Empire-Building and the Holocaust in the Ukraine.”
It's a really good book. It's especially informative if you want to read about what the Nazis had planned for Eastern Europe and the thoughts of prominent Nazis in German-occupied Europe, such as Koch.

Her other book, Hitler's Furies: German Women in the Nazi Killing Fields, is also a thoroughly informative book to read, so if you have not already then I recommend you to read that as well.

I tried to find editions closest to their original publication dates. Once I finish those I will re-read some current works to see how much they differ.
Poliakov was a real find, it’s a first edition. I don’t know about Reitlinger, once I get it I will see what edition it is.

My library has it as an ebook. I’ve been mulling it over, SM also recommends it.

I'm starting Steinhart, The Holocaust and the Germanization of Ukraine (2015), after which Dumitru, The State, Antisemitism, and Collaboration in the Holocaust: The Borderlands of Romania and the Soviet Union (2016) and Ornea, The Romanian Extreme Right (1999).

Picked up “Matters of Testimony: Interpreting the Scrolls of Auschwitz.”
I’m struggling with this one. I’m reading this at home and reading Arad when I’m out of the house.

I’m considering dropping “Matters of Testimony” for now and moving on to Lower’s book.

Yeah, gonna do that...I’ll read “Matters of Testimony” later.

I ordered Hannes Heer’s and Klaus Naumann‘s “War of Extermination: The German Military in World War II” and Bob Carruthers’s “The Wehrmacht: Last Witnesses”.

I have read quite a few books over the years which analysed the documents of the Einsatzgruppen and the Wehrmacht and in depth details of the Nazis’ plans for Eastern Europe, I shall make a post about whether the book I bought earlier gave any additional information.

There aren’t too many books available about the Wehrmacht. Wolfram Wette’s book helped debunk quite a few months about the Wehrmacht. I still look forward to reading a book about the Wehrmacht that is 800+ pages.

That looks interesting.

I may at some point get Citino’s books.

I’m interested in reading the three volumes.

Death of the Wehrmacht: The German Campaigns of 1942
The Wehrmacht Retreats: Fighting a Lost War, 1943
The Wehrmacht's Last Stand

I may order the first two books and finish reading the books I have to read and then start the first two volumes and then hopefully by that time the third volume will be released in paperback. :D

Has anyone read Bob Carruthers’ “SS Terror in the East Einsatzgruppen: The Depths of Evil”?

If so, is it any different to Richard Rhodes’ “Masters of Death: The SS-Einsatzgruppen and the Invention of the Holocaust“?

I dislike hardcover books, I only ever buy hardcover books if that is the only option.

Since the last other two volumes have been published as paperbacks, I think there is a good chance the last volume will be released as a paperback at some point in the future.

I’m surprised there aren’t more books on the Wehrmacht.

I’ve got this on hold at the library:
Iron, Fire and Ice
The Real History that Inspired Game of Thrones
by Ed West

That comes out in April so I’ll be taking a break from our subject.

Then:
Vietnam
An Epic Tragedy, 1945-1975
by Max Hastings

Also from the library. That’s for May.

I’ve got about a month between so I will work something else in.

I’ve got it. It’s essentially one long court transcript. I moved it back to later.

May need to add them but not right now.

Arad’s book is good, I need to re-read the old version and see what the differences are.

Alright, so, just to recap with new books:
The German Army and Genocide: Crimes Against War Prisoners, Jews and other Civilians in the East, 1939-1944
Hitler’s Police Battalions: Enforcing Racial War in the East
Documents on the Holocaust
The Operation Reinhard Camps, Revised and Expanded Edition: Belzec, Sobibor, Treblinka
The Evacuation, Dismantling and Liberation of KL Auschwitz
Routlidge Library Edition: Nazi Germany and the Holocaust: the Policies of Genocide: Jews and Soviet Prisoners of War in Nazi Germany
I also got the Kindle version of A Specter Hainting Europe: the Myth of Judeo-Bolshevism.

Edited to correct a horrible spelling mistake.
According to Mr. Bezos I will have Reitlinger and Poliakov tomorrow.

I think it depends. For the last fifty years, I don’t think there has been much difference in the quality between a paperback and a hardcover. I have loads of paperback books from the 1960s and 1970s in perfect condition with no cracks or creases in the spines.

I think hardcover books are more heavier and awkward to read.
As for the Wehrmacht I don’t have any suggestions.
I’m surprised there isn’t a one-volume book about the Wehrmacht that is 800+ pages.

My question is where's 1941? :)

still no 1941 :)
Must’ve slipped his mind..... :D

I think it’s quite peculiar, especially considering Operation Barbarossa was in 1941.

All the titles are on Amazon, I looked. I guess when I have the money and the time to add new titles I’m sure Mr. Bezos will happily oblige.

Poliakov arrived today.

Finished Arad.
Arad questions the numbers on the Hoefle Telegram due to the lack of records of deportations. He assumes Hoefle estimated and the numbers were higher. He also points out that these numbers would not include those who died during various actions to clear ghettos, those that died trying to escape or those possibly murdered by Poles after successfully escaping the trains or the camp.

This title will be released on April 15, 2019.

Looks interesting.

Unfortunately, Freund is a bit of a sensationalist and publicity hound, I have to say.
. . . all right we are two nations . . .

It’s relatively short and is a first edition. It’s a library book, Pace University.
