Question for Groening by a reporter:
“Mr. Groening, what do you say to those who still deny the Holocaust?”

Groening:
“Nothing. They are hopelessly lost.”

Remember when Lindsey Graham said a short term deal without a Wall would be the end of Trump's presidency? God, I hope he was right. Btw, Graham bows to the White House and supports the deal which will bring an end to Trump's presidency:

I'm inclined to agree with the earlier Graham, not the one who has flipped another 90 degrees today. This really is the end of Trump's credibility as a rabble-rousing maverick. He is now seen to be just another nebbish, a moron who gets in over his head and then yells for help.

At this moment, his bill to reopen the gov't has passed both houses of Congress and awaits his signature. Will he let Ann Coulter's challenge to his manhood cause him to renege again? Not a chance. (He can find much hotter broads than AC to shtup.)

Right-wing watch (for Upton):

Breitbart is displeased:
Government Open…

…And Border

No Wall

Still No SOTU!
And the tweets are coming:

Expect the final nail in the coffin to be driven by Trump himself tonight, as he signs the bill both House and Senate have sent him. I guarantee, he'll do that without any cameras or even reporters present. "Broken man" has to be an accurate description at this point. But he doesn't dare leave office. There's a dress suit waiting for him that matches his skin and hair the minute he does. So, miserable though he will be, and even less interested in the details of governing than he has been up to now, he'll cling to the office, and we'll all have to watch him disintegrate. At this point, he won't even get his party's nomination in 2020. He's the greatest failure ever in that office, even surpassing Buchanan, Grant, and Harding. But what should we have expected? We knew what he was. His three infamous predecessors in the degradation of the office had at least minimal qualifications and knew the law, history, and geography at least as well as the average teenager of their times. Trump didn't.

Another salutary effect of Pelosi's victory may be further unwinding the White Man's Movement in Congress, led by Seth Moulton and Tim Ryan, one hopes unwinding Moulton once and for all. The Democrats need to question not just the judgment but also the intentions of the WMM leaders who went after Pelosi.

In other news, Yahoo reports that Bernie Sanders will announce imminently his 2020 candidacy. I was hoping he would not run.

Delusional troll on Twitter tonight:

Media reports suggest that the mini-revolt by some Senate Republicans last night was the biggest factor in Trump's backing down today. That said, sure, it is unclear, probably even to Trump, what he will accept and what he will do.

He truly is a broken man. He'll probably spend the night crying into his pillow. I could (almost!) feel sorry for him, if he hadn't gleefully stomped on so many people. He knows damned well that he doesn't dare shut the government down again. Even Mitch McConnell wouldn't support that, and if Mitch won't, it's a non-starter. Likewise, both parties have expressed their opposition to the declaration of an emergency. He can't risk that either. (As I said, if he had any idea he could, he'd have done it already. Hell, he'd have crawled through sewers to avoid the humiliation he underwent today. Just like a stubborn 4-year-old, he refuses to admit what has happened to him. But nobody is going to be convinced by what he says.)

Here’s the thing that ol’ dumpster fire can’t answer:
If it was such a crisis at the border, then why no wall for the first two years of his presidency when his party held both houses?

The problem is that he caved. No matter how he spins it that’s what happened. It will be more difficult going forward because the drama is leaving people cold. The polls show his support cratered and most Americans don’t want this wall, don’t think the wall is important enough to shutdown the government or both.

He is now losing his support from the right-wing twitterheads like Coulter and his mouthpiece Limbaugh.

I think he’s done.

So, to summarize, we have the greatest lump-in-the-throat movie moment I can remember, starring Alec Guinness as Nancy Pelosi, and Sessue Hayakawa as Donald Trump. Enjoy!!

nah.

stone is the kind of guy who clumsily falls down the stairs and breaks his neck on the way to the Tribunal.

Remember that the last Tribunal Roger Stone was on was Devin Nunes' House Intelligence Committee - and Mueller has proof that Stone lied to the Committee on an unbelievable scale, and none of the Republicans followed up on the lies or allowed Democrats to investigate them.
Nunes might be in big {!#%@} himself for suppressing information about Russia collusion.

WaPo had a long story by Phil Rucker last night arguing that it was McConnell's inability to hold the Senate that caused Trump to back down - and that Trump's cave-in to Pelosi came in a 2nd phone call between the two men Thursday night, before the LaGuardia ground hold and before Stone's arrest. The collapse of public opinion and cratering of Trump's approval rating must have been the context for Trump's surrender.

Lots of loose talk going on.

In the main: to be broken, one has to be sane to begin with. Calling Trump broken, ignores the evidence and history and gives Trump too much credit. TRUMP IS DELUSIONAL. Trump does the last thing he is told to do by whomever is talking to him.......so The Turtle tells him to stop the Shutdown, and he does....reneging on Coulter and Windbag as he reneged on Congress as he will reneg again if anyone gets to him.

Now, I kinda think he is just blowing hard on the threat to shut down gubment again in February, threatening another shutdown is the act of an unstable and delusional person. Raise your hand: who here thinks Trump is SANE? Ha, ha.........I still can't stop my own bias (towards Sanity) to guess: the odds of another shutdown during Trumps next two years is still an amazing 20%?

Trumps delusion is TIED TO the delusion of his stalwart voting base which is still a threat to the Republicans up for election in two years. Nothing there has changed. Trumps "support" has NOT CRATERED. It went from 41 to 37 % still an existential WALL in the Republican nominating Process who cross Trump.

I still see, ok....just barely over 50% liklihood, that Trump will fall from an indictment issued by Mueller. Failing that, the report from Mueller will spark impeachment by the House.............and I think conviction in the Senate. In the Senate, guilty will be the vote of those who follow their conscience and by those who want out from under Trumps control of the nominating process.

Oops........I just spilled some beer on my cystal ball. I'll be back later. ((((LOVE the Ann Coulter broom......good one.))))

What is it about democracy that Trump is not getting? The people elected more Democrats to the house, so that means the will of the people are being expressed, and they don't like Trump's wall. We know that Trump loves dictatorships, but he can't have one here, no matter how many tantrums he throws.

Wut???? Thats not even close to anything relevant. Where ya been?.............I MEAN: even before Trump.

In general: candidates/office holders DON'T RUN to do the will of the people/the majority desires. They RUN ON promoting a specific set of promises/goals and screw thoses who disagree. name an exception.

How things are and how they should be are two different things. We occasionally get good government in spite of politics, not because of it. The fact that we're all still here, enjoying a measure of happiness and freedom, among the best in the world is proof that the cynical view of politics is out to lunch.

Probably more to do with the fact that "happiness" is found elsewhere than in or from politics..........but maybe that is what you could mean by "out to lunch?"

A man who fought for his country mocked and derided by acolytes of a draft dodger. What has happened to America?
Phillips never "fought for his country," to be strictly accurate about this point. He served in the Marines Corps Reserve from '72-'76 but never deployed overseas. Most of the time of his military service Phillips was a refrigeration repairperson.
Yes, I have discovered this as well lately. This was not initally publicized when I made that comment to be fair.

That being said, despite the subsiquent revelations about the episode, the video footage still shows the students making mocking fake language sounds.

There's nothing trivial about keeping the refrigerators in good repair for the military. Sometimes a cold beer is the difference between success or failure.

In other news - Sherrod Brown will be on Van Jones's show tonight at 7 ET. I will be tuning in, and will be listning keenly. He has a lot to offer. I think most of the Democratic candidates would beat Trump but Brown is one of only three who are capable, IMO, of humiliating him - i.e winning 450+ electoral votes.
