Where Men Win Glory

This book, by Jon Krakauer, is more about politics than religion, but religion and philosophy play a major role. Pat Tillman, the football player turned soldier, was an atheist early on due to his intense self-reflection and studious ethic. Late in the book, Tillman's notes on Ralph Waldo Emerson's Self Reliance are read. It fit him well.

If you like football, you'll love the book. Krakauer uses play by play analysis of Tillman's performances and his later journaling about it to paint the picture of a thoughtful young man. Regardless of your politics, I recommend it for an understanding of how politics works and it's just a great hero story.
