The Case of The Pope

Post by Bunyip » Tue Dec 28, 2010 2:31 am

"The Case Of The Pope" by Geoffrey Robertson QC (Penguin) is a book I was given for Christmas. On child abuse and the Catholic Church.

It's a beauty, started reading it today. Robertson begins by attacking the Vatican's legal position as a sovereign state and its privileged position as the only non voting State at the UN. The word "privilege" and the phrase 'above the law', come up a lot. He's scathing about the current and last Pope.

I have no doubt the Catholic hierarchy, such as that slimy George Pell, will go into attack mode, accusing this world respected jurist of bias.

I doubt many here will be overly surprised at Robertson's perception. I'm not.

Recommended.

Geoffrey Robertson QC’s j’accuse against Pope Benedict is a welcome analysis of anomalies in the position of the modern Catholic Church

Man is not so much a rational animal as a rationalising one.
