Pauls Letters a forgery?

Post by ryu289 » Thu Feb 14, 2019 3:53 pm

This apologist who debated Jesus Mythicist Ken Humphries had this to say:
One issue that is discussed in the debate is Ken Humphreys’ claim that Christianity is fraught with fraud from beginning to end. He proposes his beginning point to be the claimed letter to have been fraudulently written in the Apostle Paul’s name.
Yet, this does not necessarily follow as he claims that 1) there was a forged letter to which Paul himself alludes and so 2) Christians were perpetrating a fraud.
Yet, he missed a step; he did not prove or evidence that it was Christians who forged it.
Considering he give evidence of fraud such as the numerous contradictions in the bible involving Paul:

Would you find this apologist's complaint accurate? Or is Paul a myth as well?

I didn't have the patience to sort through all the evidence, so I'm going to be the lazy skeptic on this one and dismiss it all wholesale.
It may not be the responsible thing to do as a skeptic, but this topic makes me feel exhausted. I've never seen anything compelling in the New Testament, and the more I look into it, the more it looks like a jumble of made-up stories concocted many years after the supposed events took place. I've had my fill of the circular reasoning that says, "it's true because it's truth," or "literal word of god." That fails at stage one and not worth debating in my opinion.
The job of a skeptic is to investigate the unexplained; not to explain the uninvestigated.

It's difficult to follow his broken English and worse his bad logic, but no, it's not accurate. Who else would have created a forgery of Paul but a competing Jesus sect? The idea that some outside group did it to discredit the "real" Christians is about as plausible as God planting dinosaur bones to trick us. Paul was just as much a competing sect as anyone else, just follow the story, he doesn't even show up until Jesus is on the cross. His letters were bestowed with the value they now have some two centuries later, by Augustine.

I don't know why you need to present the false dichotomy of Paul being myth. We no doubt have an inaccurate picture of who he was or what he meant by much of his work, but claiming he never lived would be a tough case to make.
