Wednesday Follies

Post by Upton_O_Goode » Wed Aug 22, 2018 6:09 pm

As per usual on Wednesdays, when my wife is at work, I went out to lunch. Today, I chose Pizzeria Uno, one of my favorites, where I got the usual small Windy City special and a couple of pints of Heart of Lothian ale from the Drop-In Brewery in Middlebury.

Just in front of my eyes was a monitor tuned to ESPN, which was doing the Jimmy Fund Telethon for the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston. Now, there is nothing sadder than kids with cancer. Still there was some subtle humor. When they took a break from the Telethon, they aired a commercial from an ambulance-chasing firm of malpractice lawyers. Talk about product placement!!
“It is certainly sad and regrettable that so many innocent people died…Stalin was absolutely adamant on making doubly sure: spare no one…I don’t deny that I supported that view. I was simply not able to study every individual case…It was hard to draw a precise line where to stop.”

Vyacheslav Mikhailovich Skryabin (“Molotov”)
