I hadn't heard of this man before, and if you haven't, I think you'll like him and what he has to say:

Normally, in any new encounter with a previously unknown physical 'law', you go "Damn! Another thing to learn!!"

But here, if I heard of a 'law' called the DeGrasse, or the Tyson, I'd say "Ah! Wonder what took so long..." :P

There is already a Tyson's law: In the ring -- the boxing ring -- guard your ears!

The context is different, and there are rules for that! They're called the "Muhammad Ali" rules. After the greatest telescopist of our time - Muhammad Ali! Aka Dr. John "Pedal to the Metal" Brewer. He discovered that the context of all things is imperative to the solution. He also killed three pedestrians whilst riding a John Deere mower. Double trouble.

(None of that is true... :P)

I think we may be confusing regional sporting and legal laws, with universal mathematical laws here... :P

As far as I'm aware (and to a fair extent, I ought to be aware) there is no "Tyson's Law" or "DeGrasse's Law" in the field of Physics at this moment in time. I await a comeuppance on that...!

I won't hold my breath either because, in science, even tying your shoelaces can take years of peer reviewed work.

But he seems like someone who could figure something pretty big out. At some point.

He's a popularizer when we need one. Well done for that alone.

Seems that the imperial powers, the elite royalty, and the tin-horn dictators in the Mid-East have all joined forces to thwart the Arab Spring liberation movement.

One can only hope that Victor Hugo was correct in saying that "Even armies cannot stop an idea whose time has come," and that Arabs and Persians can regain some of their former glory.

No, this thread is about Arabic numerals, Arabic astronomy, and early Arabic and Persian culture.

I watched the video. It's does mention the height of Arabic culture which was many centuries ago. But then you posted a link about modern day politics. I don't see the connection.

My point is that if the competing imperial armies of the US and Russia would go the f--k home, perhaps a renaissance of Arab/Persian culture might bloom.
