Massive toenail fungus conspiracy

Post by landrew » Sat Jun 08, 2019 4:10 pm

Is toenail fungus really a problem that requires intervention? Scores of ads claim it's a serious infection that needs to be treated. But it's not always worthwhile to treat; the Mayo Clinic says so. The toenail fungus is less harmful than the chemicals you treat them with. Doctors and Big Pharma want your money.
The job of a skeptic is to investigate the unexplained; not to explain the uninvestigated.

Can you reference just a single quarter of just one of those scores?

Can you reference one?

For old folks like me that are already crusty all over, it doesn't matter a {!#%@}, but for the young lovelies that like to go 'open-toe', a fix would be appreciated.

...If your condition is mild and not bothering you, you may not need treatment....

...When to see a doctor

You may want to see a physician if self-care steps haven't helped and the nail becomes increasingly discolored, thickened or deformed. Also see a doctor if you have diabetes and think you're developing nail fungus.
I'd say you should see a doctor if you have diabetes, whether your think you're developing nail fungus or not. Diabetes is kind of...bad?

Forgive me if I was remiss in not prefacing my comment with "seems like," but I'm not going to do a search for "toenail fungus cure" for you.

Where does the massive conspiracy fit into this.

It can become a serious condition for diabetics who have difficulty with glucose control. Infection and injury to feet are of concern because of peripheral neuropathy and circulation impairment.

A hangnail can become infected and turn gangrenous.
Why does anyone worry about it?

Several decades ago I had a fungus problem in my foot, though it was athlete's foot (between the toes) rather than toenail fungus. I cured it accidentally. The wooden partition at the base of my shower was rotting, and I tipped industrial fungicide onto it to help preserve it. For the next few weeks, whenever I took a shower, the water at the bottom of the shower cubicle was milky with the industrial fungicide. My athletes foot was bathed in this fungicide and it got cured. Not sure that any doctor would recommend the treatment, though.

One of my uncles came back from WWII with trench foot on his feet and hands. He got married and had a kid. He washed the diapers, using bleach (because white is good). He noticed that the trench foot disappeared from his hands but remained on his feet. So he dipped his socks in the wash water (before anything else, of course) and wore them wet. Problem solved, eventually.

I don't think I've ever seen an ad for toenail fungus.

Hows this?

Nails are pink, as are arseholes and lips, if you don’t want an arse blooming with fungus - or worse, buy our massive toenail fungus oil and prevent its upward creep to more sensitive sites…
