If I'm honest, JO, it's exceptionally hard to read your text. It's normal text with misspelled words everywhere to emulate phonetic comprehension, which is not how the English language was derived and not how many people interpret words. It slows down reading your responses.

Sure, it maybe my subjective experience that it doesn't help with anything, just that you may consider switching back to how words are actually spelled.

Hardly. It's jarring going from normal type to .... this. I have to read each and every word to interpret it.

Is there a problem with typing with normal words, though?

How can it be an accidental "misspelling" when you're typing phonetically? It's got to be something like a "mispronunciation", surely!

And that's exactly why trying to type everything in dialects is a bad idea. It's already hard enough to try to communicate in text when you can't see the writer's expression or hear their tone of voice. We don't need to add more variables into the mix.

Your complaint iz a little different. Like Freddy with a T-shirt insted uv the red & blak striped shirt. So I'll take another stab at it.

You woud not hav any trubl understanding me if we were talking on the fone or in person, so, if you were proficient at reading nooalf, you woud hav no trubl reading the text equivelent.

And I finally finished JRUG PUNK. Its dedicated to the guy at Jesse'z nonstop meth party who feared getting extruded thru a chain link fence.

Finally got 2NQ4YQ.ttf looking good. The kerning took 3 weeks and I rejiggered a few letterz.

The next thing I'm doing iz making a new paje on the site - 'About Theze Fonts', wich will detail all the key pozitionz and other stuff.

Also I'm going to try to uze the TranzType Pro program to make sum uv the other formats. I saw that the older Mac I hav cant uze ttf and the Google Krome OS olso needz sumthing else. Dont hold your breth tho, kuz Tranztype iz by the same company that made Studio 5, so I'm gessing its not going to be eazy.

I was wondering JO... how will you resolve the creation of new homonyms that are spelled precisely the same way?

Read for example... pronounced either "Reed" or "Red" will become two spellings identical to... well... "Reed" and "Red".

"Given time and plenty of paper, philosophers can prove anything." (Robert Heinlein)

I'm not sure how Nooalf will cross language barriers using phonetics. Latin letter pronunciation might only work in Latin based countries. There are no "equals" for particular Russian sounds.

ш = "sh" = sort of as in "shorts"

Щ = "shcha" = sort of as in Fresh cheese

ж = "zhe" = sort of as in "pleasure"

Ч = "Tch" = sort of as in "church"

Я = "Ya" = sort of as in yard

More, once you add a myriad of languages, the issue of homonyms becomes downright treacherous, and you risk symbol overload... breaking the language entirely.

It would be bad enough with "Read/Reed Read/Red", but adding more languages will make reading an exercise in context... not useful for a written language.

Youre talking like there arent a tun uv hominymz alredy, Daed. Context iz a powerful tool that we uze all the time with speech to overkum theze flawz in the lexicon. Nooalf will only create sum more ritten hominymz, but it will also eliminate sum. RED & ReD, like your example, creates 2 but also subtracts 2. WIND & WiND subtracts 1. Therez a bunch more both wayz.

I dont know alot about Russian soundz, Mat, but there are Nooalf letter/soundz for your examplez that are equal or at least close enuf to be understood. Look at the chart. A little suprizing for me that they hav letterz that are for combined soundz. Didnt they do a spelling reform back in the czar dayz?

So in other words, for every problem you solve, you'll invent new ones. Sounds very efficient.

Its based on the pozitionz and movements uv our speech fasilityz, not the soundz we hear. Useful amongst pre-electronic recording teknolojy linguists cataloging the languajez uv aborijinalz, but now, especially with the interweb able to move sound filez around the globe instantly and the dearth uv newly encountered aborijinalz, not so much.

It wuz never thot thru very well anyway. The idea that diacritics added to a letter = a new letter apparently never occured to them.

I'v redun the 1st paje uv the site.

I uzed Site Spinner to lay out the paje. It works pretty well for amatuerz like me, but there are thingz it wont do that website proz woud be outrajed at. You cant modify an existing paje with it. It'l show you the code it haz created for your paje, but you cant modify it.

But you can copy the code and paste it into notepad or wudevr & do wut you want. Thats wut I did.

I spent about 2 weeks bungling around with my limited nohow trying to get the buttonz in columz on both sidez, but even with my trusty Maran Visual books, I coudnt get the CSS to do anything. With Site Spinner you just D&D piks werevr you want them & it duz all the grunt work. Eezy enuf after that to chanj the numberz to move stuf around.

hav u luk. tel me how muc yq hat it & wont to kil me.
