Unheard of cold, alarm ringers still clinging to their lies

Post by robinson » Mon Jan 06, 2014 2:01 pm

I just checked some other forums, and the ones dominated by alarm ringers are still in denial. They actually are blaming global warming for record cold.

Of course the blind prophets of doom are also still pushing their idea, that everything is caused by global warming.

Which is what makes it so ironic. Because it's so cold, the alarm ringers feel the need to blame the weather on global warming.

And they don't understand what they are saying.

University of New South Wales climate expert Dr Sarah Perkins says last year shows the effects of global warming are taking hold.

"It's here and now. We're actually starting to feel the effects, and even though the global temperature hasn't risen more than a degree at the moment, that's already had impacts on extreme temperatures and that's consistent with what we've been seeing for quite a while," she said.
http://www.abc.net.au/news/2014-01-03/2 ... ia/5183040" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

So a warm year of a small part of the world means global warming.

But one of the coldest year on record for a small part of the world doesn't mean anything. It's "just weather". And the alarm ringers don't understand what they are doing.

robinson, if you think record cold days are evidence of global warming not happening, then do you think record hot days are evidence of global warming happening?

You are presenting multiple fallacies, the same problem the alarm ringers have. Record cold or heat is weather. What matters for climate is weather over long time periods. It's why focusing on one year for one small part of the world as evidence for global warming is dumb.

What matters for climate change is long term data. If an area has a trend of cooling or warming, after a period of time you can say the climate seems to be changing in that location. In the practical real world, if you predict, over a long time period, that winters will be warmer, due to theoretical climate change, based on CO2, and the winters get colder, in the real world you have to admit the theory is not correct.

This is science. You don't take evidence that shows your theory is wrong, like colder winters, in some cases much much colder, record cold, and then claim that also means you are right. That is insanity, or deception. If it was just one year, it can be called an anomaly and ignored, but when the trend is towards colder winters, it happens for decades, and then gets much much worse, saying that also means global warming is simply not scientific.

It is a lie.

Like kenny with his "north pole melting" photo and his assorted other alarmist clippings. It's climate when they want it to be.
Like cc and his game of hide and seek. The weather events he breathlessly reports, he thinks are "produced by the climate", so it's climate.

All of 'em in the grip of a popular madness.

Note that both of them tie climate to U.S. political party and neither can defend their weird ideas.

The individual with his crackpot ideas doesn't really bother me at all. It's the mass hysteria and rampant dumb from experts that make science seem like a joke.

Here's an example of the dumb trying to actually use the record cold as "evidences" of global warming.
http://news.yahoo.com/global-warming-fr ... itics.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Global Warming Is Freezing You
That isn't a joke headline. It's serious.
As crazy as it sounds, global warming may be at least partly to blame.

This particularly aspect of climate change science is not yet definitive, but here's what may be going on:

1) The Arctic rapidly warming: It's always going to be colder at the North Pole than it is in Miami, but the difference in temperature between those two places may already be shrinking. The Arctic is quickly losing sea ice, which is being replaced by relatively warmer open ocean. Liquid water tends to trap heat more effectively than ice, which in turn discourages the future formation of ice. It's a feedback loop that is not working in our favor, and as a result, the Arctic is warming twice as fast as the rest of the world.
If the person writing that huge dumb knew anything, they wouldn't write that. It's obviously from a non scientific source.

Why? Because this year the arctic was unusually cold. In fact, it went into the fall/winter freeze earlier this year than ever recorded. The arctic was record cold this year. The sea ice froze up early.

And some places never even melted that usually did.

That's why such a spin piece of dumb shows how little science is involved. Or how it's not even science at all being used.

Also, blaming record cold on global warming is as dumb as saying record cold means no warming.

Usually the first language you hear from the scientists when exposed to facts contrary to what they have been preaching, is that it's "actually not inconsistent with...blah blah", when in fact it's absolutely inconsistent with what they've been saying.

It a question of why climate science got such a heavy share.

Alarmist Chris Mooney says:
3. Antarctica is a very cold place. But global warming is affecting it as predicted: Antarctica is losing ice overall, according to the latest report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
Chris Mooney doesn't like to think. Instead of saying that both sea ice and ice sheet mass are quite possibly growing, he makes an unsubstantiated claim.

Here's a recent study:
Mass Gains of the Antarctic Ice Sheet Exceed Losses

Zwally, H. Jay; Li, Jun; Robbins, John; Saba, Jack L.; Yi, Donghui; Brenner, Anita; Bromwich, David

Abstract:

During 2003 to 2008, the mass gain of the Antarctic ice sheet from snow accumulation exceeded the mass loss from ice discharge by 49 Gt/yr (2.5% of input), as derived from ICESat laser measurements of elevation change. The net gain (86 Gt/yr) over the West Antarctic (WA) and East Antarctic ice sheets (WA and EA) is essentially unchanged from revised results for 1992 to 2001 from ERS radar altimetry.

Guardian
The helicopter will carry the 52 scientists and tourists on board a dozen at a time to the Snow Dragon, in an operation expected to take five hours.

A barge will then ferry them four kilometres (two miles) to the Australian icebreaker Aurora Australis.

All 22 crew members are expected to stay with their icebound vessel, which is not in danger.

The Aurora will carry the passengers to the Australian island state of Tasmania, arriving by mid-January.

The long-awaited rescue came after days of failed attempts to get the passengers off the Russian ship MV Akademik Shokalskiy, which got stuck on Christmas Eve.

Blinding snow, strong winds, fog and thick sea ice forced rescuers to turn back time and again.

In 1974, Time Magazine blamed the cold polar vortex on global cooling.

Scientists have found other indications of global cooling. For one thing there has been a noticeable expansion of the great belt of dry, high-altitude polar winds —the so-called circumpolar vortex—that sweep from west to east around the top and bottom of the world.

Another Ice Age? – TIME
http://content.time.com/time/magazine/a ... 14,00.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Forty years later, Time Magazine blames the cold polar vortex on global warming

But not only does the cold spell not disprove climate change, it may well be that global warming could be making the occasional bout of extreme cold weather in the U.S. even more likely. Right now much of the U.S. is in the grip of a polar vortex, which is pretty much what it sounds like: a whirlwind of extremely cold, extremely dense air that forms near the poles. Usually the fast winds in the vortex—which can top 100 mph (161 k/h)—keep that cold air locked up in the Arctic. But when the winds weaken, the vortex can begin to wobble like a drunk on his fourth martini, and the Arctic air can escape and spill southward, bringing Arctic weather with it. In this case, nearly the entire polar vortex has tumbled southward, leading to record-breaking cold

http://science.time.com/2014/01/06/clim ... d-weather/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://stevengoddard.wordpress.com/2014 ... ar-vortex/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I told you climate science is officially not scientific.

This blaming global warming for the record cold is the last shredding of all credibility for the alarm ringers.

So global warming continues apace in Norway. 8-)

Can you point to the part that is warm in this picture?

Because according to the GISS info Norway is trending colder for January.

Can anyone look at Norway on this GISS info and see warming? I see cooling.

It really looks like winter in Norway is getting colder.

Of course if you use a long term trend you can show warming there.

There's your Norway global warming, no doubt about it.
