Read a good book about the Five Families ages ago, need to track that down.
Question for Groening by a reporter:
“Mr. Groening, what do you say to those who still deny the Holocaust?”

Groening:
“Nothing. They are hopelessly lost.”

Hhhhhhhmmmmmm, is it possible that Carlo Mattogno is the greatest scholar the world has ever known?

Bob Dylan Rolling Thunder Revue - misguided film by Martin Scorcese, filled with utter BS, posturing, tomfoolery, hide and seek - and amazing concert footage - gawd was Dylan an a-hole, gawd was he a great musician

I missed Shoah on Prime, it’s no longer available to stream. But I did find it on YouTube.

I think I’ll try watching this in the next few weeks.

Watched this today.
Yeah.....OK, so, there are obvious exaggerations in this one owing to the obvious shock value of seeing piles of corpses. The term “Death Mills” is one, also the beginning of the film states that 20 million died and there were just a few thousand survivors.

The gut-wrenching scenes of starvation and death pack a powerful punch. It’s obviously made for mass consumption with the newsreel quality and the ominous voice narrating the scenes.

Go ahead and watch if you want, who knows when YouTube yanks this due to its theme. I won’t recommend and I advise you not to watch this while you are eating.

There is a documentary called “The Accountant of Auschwitz” on Netflix. I started watching it while doing something around the kitchen....and then found it so fascinating I had to turn it off to finish my task.

I will turn it back on when I have time to devote to it.

curious to hear how good it is, my wife expressed interest when I just now told her that I thought there was a documentary on Gröning - she actually knows how to watch things on Netflix too :)

Hey!!!! Nazi granny AKA Ursula Haverbeck showed up to support Groening at his trial!!!!

For all his faults Groening never denied that gassings ever took place so this support is ironic.

I wonder if this is what got her in trouble. The reporter interviewed her on air.

Apparently about 11 deniers showed up on the first day and German law enforcement made them leave.

Rainer Hoess, the grandson Of Rudolf Hoess, actively advocates against neo-Nazis and was friends with Eva Kor.

RIP, she really was a sweet lady.

Wow.
Groening (talking about the possessions of the Jews):

“Yes, they no longer needed them.”

This was in response to a question from the judge about what Groening thought about taking these things from the Jews unloaded at Auschwitz.

So, finished with “The Accountant of Auschwitz.”

It’s worth the time. The filmmaker did a good job of presenting background but in a way it detracted a bit from Groening’s trial.

Kor forgave Groening on the stand and later went over and embraced him. This was not accepted by the other survivors who criticized her for doing so. I have no issues with her doing this. It was her choice to make that gesture, if it helped her and gave her closure, so be it. If the others didn’t feel it was appropriate to forgive him then that is their choice.

Some of those interviewed felt that Groening’s repudiation of deniers a mitigating factor. I feel somewhat the same. But it also struck me that every time I heard Groening speak of his experience in the camp he wound up looking worse. In the end I have no issues with his conviction. He never spent a day in prison which is what I thought would happen.

The filmmaker discussed the Demjanjuk case. I found it amusing that the state department investigators caught him on film walking and talking while in front of the cameras he put on a huge act. It was right that the Israeli Supreme Court struck down his first sentence, just like it was right for the Germans to try him for being a guard at Sobibor.

In any case it’s worth a watch.
