Sad. He went through hell the last few years but kept recovering.
Question for Groening by a reporter:
“Mr. Groening, what do you say to those who still deny the Holocaust?”

Groening:
“Nothing. They are hopelessly lost.”

Hhhhhhhmmmmmm, is it possible that Carlo Mattogno is the greatest scholar the world has ever known?

That's sad. I used to hit at his batting cage in Natick. I always liked Billy B and felt that if McNamara had inserted Stapleton during the postseason, as he often did in such situations during the regular season, the Red Sox would have won the series in '86 and Buckner would have been a hero in Boston.

A friend of mine, whose father owned a piece of the Albany NY IIRC Cubs' minor league team, remarked to her husband right after the ball went through Buckner's legs, "Once a Cubbie, always a Cubbie."

Another friend (a Yankees fan), who knew how upset I was after the game (which I watched with someone I'd roomed with in grad school who tried to carry on a conversation about Laclau and Althusser during the late innings - asking at one point, "Is this an interesting game?" LOL), called me at work the next day and said, "Did you hear what happened to Buckner late last night? He decided to go for a walk to clear his head and stepped from the hotel right into a busy street. He looked up and saw a truck bearing down on him . . ." I said, "{!#%@} no, don't tell me!" My friend said, "Yeah, it went right through his legs."

I was a big Buckner fan.

I remember buying the single in the record department of my town's JJ Newberry's, I think that was in '66 or '67, after the store pretty much burnt down.

Not dead or even dying but still surprising. Hope it turns out OK for him.

Good luck, Dave.

AFAIK Dave Mustaine never smoked though he did a lot of drugs. Who knows? He performed in many different venues and in doing so was exposed to a lot of second-hand smoke. Or around band members who smoked.

Not gone yet but soon. Not a surprise, really.

I saw Crosby, Stills and Nash at the Brady Theater in Tulsa. It was (I think) 1992? 1993? It was just the three of them on guitars and a piano. It was quite an amazing experience. It saddens me just a little that three of them don’t speak anymore. I hope they patch things up one final time before the end....regardless of whose end it is.
