Tease your brain with this
It's a gif.

Stare at the central image and it'll cause your eyes to see colours that aren't there in the black and white image that follows.

Yeah, I know. I always expect the scary face too.
I was going to say not to worry about the scary face, but I also know that just makes me expect the scary face even more.

I love these perception-test things. I had lots of them in my psychology 101 book.
I see them as a very useful lesson in how we see what we want or expect to see, even on such a fundamental level as "pure sensing". Which is why a skeptic attitude even to one's own senses often is in order.
Peace
Dan

Re: Tease your brain with this
That's awesome, I've never encountered that visual illusion before. It's almost like the afterimage which remains on our retina somehow "fills in" the colours within the black and white image. An afterimage usually elicits the negative of the colours which comprise it, maybe the negatives of the colours shown there are the "true colours" which we perceive when the image changes to black and white.
Was there an explanation which accompanied the illusion? I wonder if I can reproduce the effect by going into photoshop, taking any image, creating a negative of the image, as well as a greyscale version, then putting them together as they are shown here?

I'll have to have to get permission from my brain first, it usually doesn't like it when I tease it.

I wonder how that works for those of use who are red-green colorblind.

I'm sure that some kind off seeing-eye illusion was used in those popular '90's books called; Magic Eye.
Except for the roaming eyes, this is one of my favourite optical illusion sites.

I stared at the black dot and peripheral colors. So what does it prove?
