ha, ha........a very common ploy in Big Biz. Management SCREWS UP, and when caught: the employees are retrained.

SOP.....and all BS.

..............what i haven't heard reported on yet is like any business they can refuse service and turn anyone into a trespasser if they are told so and asked to leave. All I've heard is the management called the cops. Was there any request to leave first given?

They aren't a church. Anyone should have the right to use their services unimpeded by prejudice. Any request to leave, and thus not obtain services which are obtained by all others, should require evidence of some transgression. A business which is open to the public obtains taxpayer funded services – access to the street, issuance of a business license, police and fire protection, etc. If they cannot provide services to everyone, they shouldn't be in business.

TJ--your unhinged hostility is fully on display. Prove me wrong: what in "its not the law in the USA" makes you think I'm not directly commenting on the USA? My reference to Japan being better should have been a clue. Too many bee stings?

..........and all because you can't consider that Hillary is a crook, in some ways, worse than Trump. Trump can't fool anyone, Hillary has you flummoxed.

On my way to work this morning I stopped at Starbucks for a piss without buying anything (as usual).

The only thing that has changed in the past few weeks is my becoming aware that this was a form of White Privilege TM, and that as of yesterday it is that no more.

So everything is now OK all around and no complaints.

People should follow the law. Saying "should" in such context clearly allows for the implication that its what they "should" do.......but the law also should be followed in all such conflicts....allowing for the first impression one (ie: YOU) don't know what the law in the USA is. So...my entire basis was talking about the USA, and use of should does not negate this.

Certainly, you can pick a less informed position.......but when so doing, your analysis should be laid out.

fwiw: The Law in USA generally allows owners of businesses to let their services be provided, eg: use or non-use of restrooms to the public...or even paying customers, as they see fit. Since YOU said they SHOULD BE allowed to use the restrooms, I had a half assumption that may be the case in Japan thereby giving your view more context and credibility than you appreciate.

Just another issue, where the RICH have ready access to such services while we, the poor, are relegated to pissing in our pants. Note: Europe where public restrooms are more generally available.

Update: Starbucks strategy going forward.

Starbucks Pumps the Brakes in Its Home Market
Bloomberg
With Schultz exiting, it’s now up to CEO Kevin Johnson to decide where to slow versus grow.

... Starbucks also plans to close about 150 company-operated stores in densely penetrated U.S. markets next fiscal year, three times the number it historically shuts down annually ...

... a renewed focus on rural and suburban areas—not over-caffeinated urban neighborhoods where locals already joke that the next Starbucks will open inside an existing store. ...
Closing in "urban neighborhoods". I'd love to see a map.

While driving yesterday I saw a roadside sign for a Starsucks drivethru - I didn't know that they had drivethrus. Yikes, maybe that is why we have traffic accidents - burnt coffee beans settling in the seat-sore bums of drivers until they need to take their hands off the wheel and scratch their butt at the same time they bash their heads on the dash to clear the accumulated crud from between their teeth. FFS, if ya need a hit, get out of your car and stretch your legs. :?
