How close are we to neuralink?

Post by Obsessed_With_Gaming » Tue Jun 11, 2019 4:25 am

Hi,

I am wondering how close are we to brain-computer interfaces such as neuralink (Neural Lace) 2037? And if it is successful how will it change the world?

Hi there!

Short answer: not very far.

direct implants of electrodes or a combination of genetic modification and fiber-optics (Optogenetics) aren't technologies that transfer data into the brain - they just stimulate certain parts of the brain; very useful for certain medical conditions, but little else.
The amount of data that can be absorb via vision or sound is so much higher.

In the reverse case, it is just as bad: making a computer read your explicit intentions requires a lot of training and currently a lot of equipment.

My brain meshed with technology in 2004. Now I'm a puppet controlled by non-mysterious clicks and beeps.
