How should we think about weird things?

"What you say is impossible, so you're banned."

When you drop your iPhone in water and it won't turn on, Apple will tell you that your data is gone for all time. But several people have made a business of recovering data from such phones, and have shared the technique to the repair community. When someone mentions such a fact on Apple's help forum, they have been banned from the forum on the grounds that what they are saying are lies.

Investigative reporting has uncovered this, and this.

It seems to me that Apple's attitude is not so different from that of a dismissive and closed-minded "skeptic." "It can't be true, so it's not."
The job of a skeptic is to investigate the unexplained; not to explain the uninvestigated.

What? I thought that my iPhone was submersible to 15 bar. I’ve been cheated.

If you make it through the first fourteen bars you deserve to get that fifteenth one, now don't you?
