Can't get more Pop Culture than---favorite Songster...

Postby bobbo_the_Pragmatist » Mon Jul 18, 2016 3:52 pm

I knew I was going to be out of date....but I still giggled at how many Top Stars I've never even heard of. Only about 2-3 would I ever listen to regularly.....and some are hard to avoid at least hearing a song here and there.

didn't see a single star I even liked the music of....maybe Adele?

Just watched "The Martian" last night. The disco music featured would drive me batty....but I'd probably listen to it as well. Better than the sound of silence....if NEVER the Sounds of Silence.

Top Ten Artists for each State of the USA===sorry Internationals.....pick the State most similar to your own dirt?

Dude, we're getting old. I wouldn't torture the worst artist of the 60s or 70s with the {!#%@} they call music these days.

I'm no expert on Pop music but I think we had some of it back when ROCK RULED. We had Country...Jazz...Pop...Disco. No Rap. A very little bit of Rap is good: the beat. Lyrics universally is {!#%@}....same with their videos.

Age/Culture/Sophistication....Ha Ha...even saying that makes me feel like a phony...but c'mon the simplest of rhyme schemes is "art?" No different in the movies these days with one meaningless explosion/gun fire exchange after the other.....although i did watch X-Men all the way through. Some of the Special Effects are very imaginative....

I know I'm out of date, when it comes to music.

Music is such an incredibly subjective art-form.

However, I play instruments and the best way to improve is to listen to all styles, learn to plan them and then steal the bits you like. :D

Slip it to the Android----LOVE the title. Started out with a Beatles tune? Them structured like "Stuck in the Middle with You..." ///// Tape Loops? You mean most of this music really is lifted from prior work?....So Beatles and Steelers Wheel could have been actually used? Shirley the main beat is original....the flute work? Or is the Whole thing looped? Ha, ha.....I think like Captain Beefheart, this might get on my nerves...but just fine first time through.

Colin Newman...also nice, and another good title. Sounds like Billy Idol.........

Lots of music out there.

The Beatles used tape loops.

John Lennon also invented "the Flanger". The flanger is a modulated fast echo. John Lennon modulated it by holding his thumb against the open reel, in a low tech manoeuvre.

I'll second that. Of all the singers of that type at that time, Dean is my favorite. His personality and character were No One. Almost all his songs are a bit ....what...... lame? but he sings well.

The list is `currently being streamed` - who does that? Teens?

I`m still on the Andrews Sisters, Buddy, PPM, etc.

I still have `78s, 45`s, 33&1/3rds, and of course CDs....

I really like Boobie Woogie. There is some of it on Youtube. Fun to watch too. A nice counterpoint to Muddy Blues.

Because I do like BW--I googled it and according to that which knows everything, R&R, Country, Blues, Love, and Puppy Love are here to stay....but not Boogie Woogie. The Boys in Company B are bummed out.
