Saw “Ant Man and the Wasp.” I liked it, much more of a stand-alone film though you need to see the first Ant Man movie and Captain America: Civil War (and the end links it backed to the latest Avengers movie). It had some entertaining moments including some true comedy. It was well cast with good chemistry.

Verdict:
See it if you are following the MCU. Like all Marvel movies they all tie together in some way. It’s a good entry.

Not really a new one but I saw “Watchmen: The Ultimate Cut” this weekend. This is the uncut version that’s 4 hours long.

I saw this one in the theater when it first came out and liked it. A second viewing made me see the flaws and watching an uncut version made the flaws worse.

For those who haven’t seen it the Watchmen were costumed heroes who lacked real powers except for one, Dr. Manhattan. Dr. Manhattan possesses real powers as the result of a lab accident and is so powerful he is godlike.

I liked the premise though it seemed to me the heroes did possess greater speed, agility and strength. The heroes were also flawed in ways you don’t see in regular Marvel or DC. A good example is the Comedian (played brilliantly by Jeffrey Dean Morgan), a man capable of committing horrifying acts without batting much of an eye.

I won’t go into the story but it’s pretty standard. In the uncut version there is also a secondary story about a kid reading a comic.

I can’t say I really recommend it. The acting was subpar except for Morgan and Jackie Earle Haley. Haley plays Rorschach, a character so driven by moral absolutes he commits hideous murders in the name of justice.

This is not your typical hero movie, see it if you like your heroes with ugly flaws.

Deadpool ruined superhero movies for me. It just shits all over them.

You should watch the Deadpool 2 Superdooper Cut. It's not the same movie you saw in the cinema.

It's the proper movie.

I went to see Deadpool 2 at the cinema and walked out thinking WTF? Did I miss something?

Yeah, nah. They chopped a lot.

The Predator

I liked it. I didn't see what was so awful that would make it receive such a low rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It's definitely a flawed movie, but it didn't suck.
Spoiler:
Olivia Munn saving the day toward the end of the movie was silly. She was many kilometers away from the spaceship and was able to walk to it within like 10 minutes.

The fight against the doggies didn't make too much sense to me.

The big ol' Earth doggy didn't seem to be used properly, story-wise. And the way he ran seemed odd to me.
Recommendation: See it if you like violence, blood, zappy guns, sci fi, and big ol' aliens. Liking Predators helps too.

I'll be there exactly one year from today. What's the weather like? Will I need shorts and a jacket? Are the leaves turning?

Oh, thanks for the warning…

In mountainous areas further north and west - the leaves may be turning, but it is probably a bit early. Weather is generally fine unless a typhoon comes by, which they start to do this time of year thru end November. Mostly approx. 17 to 23c these days, but 29 today.

Shorts? What are those? Oh, are they those poor boy pants that pre-schoolers wear – from families who couldn`t afford the fabric? You don`t see adults with them here unless maybe at the beach. I haven`t had any for more`n 60 years. But for hiking about, whatever makes you comfortable. After all, everyone will assume that you are a barbarian anyway. ;)

A light jacket for early morning if you like, but I am still OK in a T-shirt on 17c mornings.

Actually, I have more to say about this...

I'm going to come over there, and walk in your house with my bare, hairy barbarian legs, and shoes on.

Careful... remember that bull joke? My wife would carve you up and feed you to cats. You would never see it coming. But just in case, I`ll keep that burn pit open and available for any parts at which the cats turn up their noses.

Dammit. You caught me in an edit. But the point remains.

Wouldn't it be impolite to murder and dismember a guest? A barbarian that knows no better? I'll have my kids with me. Won't someone think of the children?
