Youtube history

Postby Gord » Mon Jan 12, 2015 8:30 pm

What the hell? Youtube has inserted things into my viewing history that I didn't watch!

I just checked today after watching a series of videos. All the ones I viewed were there, but another one called "1 Simple Trick To Help Boost Your 'Man Drive'". I never watched that! And I certainly didn't watch it between "WATCH: Joaquin Phoenix Slams Walmart for Supporting Sickening Cruelty to Pigs" [before I signed a petition] and "Chumbawamba - Tubthumping" [which I followed from a link posted on these forums]. I would have had to have watched it today, in the last two hours, and then forgotten about it!

(No, that didn't happen.)

Looking down the list, I see another one: "Crunches Will Keep You Fat". Allegedly I watched it between "Ancient Aliens On Mars: Ancient Petroglyph And Column Photographed by NASA" [which I followed from a link posted on these forums] and "Bill Maher's Dirty Secret" [which I also followed from a link posted on these forums].

What the hell, Youtube?

What the hell?

Have you asked your avatar? Maybe he's watching stuff when you're not looking.

I don't think hackers can be that bored.

I was just throwing ideas in. Perhaps it could be a "feature" that was added without you noticing (becoming paranoid thinking it).

Edited to add: just had a thought, maybe you picked up a bug (probably not a big stretch)

Recently, ytube occasionally goes to some other video when the one I had been watching ends and without my doing anything. That would count as a view, right?

I believe so yes. A lot more realistic than my ideas.

Yes, but I haven't gone to these videos. I've never seen them before they showed up in my history.

How could this be a computer bug? It seems like an extremely lame one.

Apparently others have had this problem before:

http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issue ... l?id=85816

A comment explained what happened: The video is played on the homepage, adding it to the history. Please disallow videos played on youtube homepage from being added to the user history page.

Hmm, there's only one home page that I go to, and the unwatched videos in my play list don't match up to the times I've viewed that homepage.

Because they are making money with it and you use youtube for free so just accept it , if you paid for youtube you could have said something

That's what I've been suspecting -- Youtube gets money when people watch the ads. But by putting the ads in my history, are they defrauding the advertisers by claiming I watched it, or trying to trick me into clicking the links to find out where they go?

Another one today! "The Most Important Male Muscle For Attracting Women". Apparently I watched it between the last video I watched yesterday, but before the first video I watched today.

Well... I don't know. I don't get many ads anymore (and haven't seen the happy "And I'm Mormon!"-s in a long time - do they still exist?). But if those are ads "disguised as regular videos", it might not work anyway. 'Twas just a thought. :pardon:
