I hope you watched tonite. Don't think that you would have liked Sy, the Mexican rapper, but the tribute to Randy was great, and Amber now looks especially beautiful because someone apparently worked on her teeth, like they did with your old flame Siobhan, and I'm sure they will with Angie Miller. Angie looked good and sang well now that the pressure was off.

The prize went to the young lady with the best voice, Candice Glover, and runner-up Kree Harrison acquited herself well as a great runner-up.

Aretha Franklin did a great number with the ladies, and the men were great with Frankie Valli of the Four Seasons, so, all in all, I think thatt this was about as good as TV gets.

After years of talk I sent some knife blades to be coated with Titanium nitride, and I'll have to grind it off one side if they come back and put handles on, but the rodent-tooth effort is trying to go forward, alas.

I started to woc at the beginning, but coudnt sit thru 2 owrz uv singing, so went back to my Dexter seezn 7 DVD.

Tuned bak in around 8:20, saw a guy dressed up az Nikki. Saw the Randy tribute. That wuz good. The J Lo number wuz krap.

How do you rate this seezn?

I expect next yir will be better.

The best part uv the show being over iz that its like a landmark in my mind signalling that we're getting closer to Breaking Bad.

I think the talent was terrific this year, but that the judges' long, repetitive, fawning comments were a bore. Haven't seen Breaking Bad. Probably won't be watching any TV except the occasional sporting event until next season.

Sorta watching it a little. The editing iz still a hot steaming pile. Its at least watchable without Nikki Manaj and Mariah Carey. Harry Connick Jr iz good. He'z not harsh like Simon, but he duznt giv them a break if they arent very good.

They are still holding back on the delusionalz, so its not much fun.

Didnt see any outstanding contestants yet, but I'v only seen about haf the show, so may hav missed sumwun special.

Wasn't unhappy that Ben Briley got voted off last night. Nothing against him, but the remaining ten will be going on the American Idol tour this summer, and I wouldn't have wanted any of them to miss it.

I haven't really noticed. I've only noticed that the songs of the guest vocalists always seem very repetitive and to go on forever.

Alex Preston 5

Dexter Roberts 5 A tune! A melody!

C. J. Harris 4

Caleb Johnson 4 Screaming. Not melodic.

Jena Irene 4

Jessica Meuse 4

Malaya Watson 3 Pitchy

Sam Woolf 3 No melody.

Duets:
Malaya and Sam 4+ Not great harmony
Jessica and Caleb 4 (No harmony)
Jena and Alex 3+
Dexter and C.J. 3

Not many can harmonize like the Everly Brothers did, but probably every family in the Deep South has at least a couple of members who can harmonize better than these performances.

Don't know if anyone's watching Idol anymore, including you, JO, but anyway...

Seems like Idol tried another fast one last night with a new gimmick to give young Sam Woolf another shot, but he got voted off anyway.

I keep a "scorecard" and had written "sounds flat" next to his name last week, although I didn't mean flat versus sharp.

IMHO Harry Connick may have hit the nail on the head when he encouraged Sam to change the volume of some of the phrases in his vocals, and not just sing at one volume level. Anyway, Sam is gone until the road tour, leaving only 4 contestants.

Jessica Meuse may have the best vocals, but the judges don't seem to like her- probably don't like her personality. Jena's vocals may be just as good as hers or better. Then, there's screaming Caleb Johnson, and Alex Preston, without great vocals, left.

Caleb - 11 1/2

You Give Love a Bad name- 3

Travelin' Band 4+

Maybe I'm Amazed 4

Jessica - 8

Since You've Been Gone no tune 2

I Am a Rock Star tuneless 2

You and I some tune 4

Alex Preston - 9

Too Close to Love You 4

I'm Yours okay 3

Didn't enjoy third song 2

Jena - 7

Heartbreaker no melody 2

Bad Romance again almost tuneless 3

Can't Help Falling in Love With You pitchy 2

So, I had Alex ahead of the ladies despite them being better singers, due to poor song choices without melodies. In fact, there wasn't one rendition by anyone last night that I would like to have so I could play it back again. None of them were as good as the originals. :-!

Don't follow the ratings, but wouldn't be surprised if they're down, and am wondering if Jimmy Iovine gave better advice as to song choices.

Candice Glover won last year. She's terrific. When they were discussing who might be voted off late in the season Jimmy Iovine said "If Candice Glover goes home, I go home." Totally agree with those sentiments. The lady can sing!

Saw Breaking Bad a little, but didn't get hooked. The nives are a complete bust. The wrong kind of bust.

Here in Canada we canceled the show's version here, Canadian Idol, because fans like myself stopped watching once they kicked off very, very, good singers in exchange for having an unusually high amount of only guitar-playing males which appeared to bias its favor to some limited type of viewer or participants able to phone in to vote.

Inevitably, such talent contests will only tend to work near or at the beginning when people are most attentive and degrade to becoming ever more non-representative of the best of talent that is available.

You should probably know two who came from these years this show existed: Jacob Hoggard, whose band is, "Hedley" (season two) and Carly Rae Jepson (season five). Although these two did not win in the end, their successes to me were enough to let me know that they were stars even in spite of it before their actual successes.

As with American Idol, the only one I ever liked enough was their first star, "Kelley Clarkson".

As with all the rest, while there are good singers amongst them, their appeals are limited because what occurs on these shows is that the focus is intended to make all applicants be capable of singing in multiple formats of which it either tends to dilute their success to their ability to be so mundanely bland such that their voices appeal to the lowest denomination of all styles, or that they get relatively lucky with their appeal to uniqueness and the luck of which order they are forced to perform a style which doesn't get them eliminated due to some major misfit of choice of song or an inappropriate fit with the particular style they must sing in.

I wunder if the contestants got out uv their contracts wen the show canseld. A big complaint I herd rumorz uv wuz that the Idol company had them locked in like indentured slavez for eternity.

I didnt see the 1st seazon uv American Idle, but saw Clarkson gesting in later showz. Shez good, but I liked several otherz better, nun uv wich actually won the title.
