Brain over (Interne)t Babble….…..

Postby nmblum88 » Fri Nov 20, 2015 3:44 pm

http://www.nytimes.com/2015/11/14/opinion/the-exploitation-of-paris.htm

With a caveat, of course: despite our passion for the URL "juste" , it is NOT evidence of anything other than that the URL exists.

Well actually - the URL doesn't work. However, if I do a search for 'nytimes paris exploitation', up pops an address which takes me to exactly the article you're pointing at, Norma, and with precisely the same URL - and that one DOES work!

I am far too flummoxed to actually read the article.

Wonder of wonders, ,miracle of miracles….(oh, wait… that's from "Fiddler on the Roof")!
But come now, Poodle…. certainly you've lived through more exacting experiences!!
And Sir… clearly you were not too flummoxed to write your response.
I guess that's a good thing…
Anything that suggests that "flummoxed" and "Skeptic Forum" actually can and DO exist in tandem, does have a ring of truth around it.

It's the missing "l" in "html" in Norma's link, Poodle. Tricky to spot, but it's there

Doesn't work: http://www.nytimes.com/2015/11/14/opini ... -paris.htm
Works: http://www.nytimes.com/2015/11/14/opini ... paris.html

There you have it!! The proof is in the pudding (or the trifle): you can't be me and I can't be you, and we can't be each other.
Because I would not have spotted that in a thousand years.
In fact, I would never even have looked for it.

P.S. But I am reminded: did anyone actually READ Bruni's piece? Or did the technological glitch supersede the point of his having written it, and the NYTimes having printed it?

I agree with the article, mostly.

But I hav a lejitimate complaint that the Paris attack directly precipitated the return uv NMB.

And I am working on figuring out a way to blame it for not being able to get fenderz for my car.

I got the gist of it. It's much the same point that Sam Harris makes in my "Sleepwalking" post in the Podcast section. There really isn't anything new to be learned from another terrorism tragedy. Either you understand that the world is currently designed in a way that they will happen or you don't. The questions of who is doing their job or not have not changed. If anything, some people in Paris did their jobs really well and kept this from being a worse tragedy than it was.

Sure, I'd like to see people dealing with tragedy better and I'd like to see politicians being proactive about the problem of terrorism.

I've read it, and indeed reads strangely, considering the NYT's reputation.. But perhaps it's a sign of the times? The NYT is adapting? I've heard about this editorial:

http://www.nytimes.com/2015/11/18/opini ... orism.html

More remarkably, it's not just an opinion piece, it's an editorial!

There you have it!! The proof is in the pudding (or the trifle): you can't be me and I can't be you, and we can't be each other.

I'm not even sure we should be talking to each other. We might get someone confused!
