That was fun.

He did make an interesting point. "Why don't you get African Americans hunting for bigfoot?"

I don't know if, factually, that is a true statement or not, however, my gut feeling is, you don't get all that many 'non-white WASPs" looking for UFO's, Bigfoot and Nazi UFO's.

I haven't got a clue why. I would guess that over the last 100 years, western white culture simply had more disposable wealth and a whole bunch of loonies could be supported, studying ancient Greek at uni, looking for bigfoot, or becoming personal trainers. It's not a "race" thing but an "economics" thing. :D

Joe Rogan is becoming more and more like my friend from high school.

Except my friend from high school isn't like that anymore. Now he's more like Howie Mandel.

Except serious. Not funny intentionally. And he gets upset when you laugh.

From what I've read, Bigfoot is alive and well running his own cannabis plantation in Texas:

No wonder he's so hard to find - he'll end up doing some serious time if those Texas rangers catch him.

Re: Yeti and/or bigfoot, I have a strange idea.

Giant apes (not gorillas or chimpanzees) have been reported in Africa.

Gorillas are very similar in a lot of ways to humans in their biology.

Is it possible for gorillas to suffer from giantism in the way that people can? Some people have an abnormality with their growth hormones (sometimes from a tumor) and can get to be eight feet tall.

Could such a thing happen to a gorilla?

Best,
---Kevin

Hmm, lets see... gigantism or acromegaly in animals seems to exist. And conversely, some dogs can suffer from skeletal dysplasia...

Yes. It's possible that the Moon is really an artificial satellite; it's possible the pyramids were built using telekinesis and glue; it's possible bigfoot was my father; it's possible [anything].

First things first. It appears that the Bili Ape really has been discovered in the Democratic Republic of Congo. It is, apparently, a chimpanzee. It's large for a chimpanzee, but then it's an isolated population where such variation could easily happen. And it's not a giant - it's a big chimpanzee, but not fantastically outside the normal range of primates as a whole.

Second things second. Giantism occurs across most, if not all, of the animal kingdom. A gorilla could certainly be affected by it. But King Kong is never going to snatch biplanes from the air around the top of the Empire State Building. There's a difference between giantism and fantasy.

I know that there is a difference between giantism and fantasy, but I was just speculating, since many legends and fantastic folk tales sometimes have their origins in a grain of truth.

I wouldn't imagine that a gorilla with giantism would be like King Kong, but I would expect an animal maybe 50% bigger than a healthy animal, and I would also suspect that such a gorilla would be sickly and infirm for the same reasons that a human with giantism would be sickly and infirm. According to the books by Fossey, gorillas seem to show a certain loyalty toward each other, and sickly animals are taken care of by other members of the group. I also would guess that a giant gorilla would be intimidating to any rivals just by virtue of size.

I was just wondering if such a thing was behind bigfoot-like reports from Africa.

Best,
---Kevin

Bears walking on their hind legs are not as rare a phenomenon as Bigfoot buffs would have you believe. Especially if a bear has an injury to one or both of its front paws, and needs to cover some ground, it will walk upright for a good distance. There was a famous case from New Jersey recently that generated lots of Youtube videos. Here's one:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=57iXjNmUjTA

The animal had injuries on its front legs. I think a vast number of Bigfoot sightings can be explained by this.
