Godzillus "mystery beast" from 450 Mya

Possibly this is the during the cambrian epoch? Not totally clear on the ages.

I think science daily sometimes jumps off the deep end. Science coverage there can be as bad as anywhere else, at times, but that was the closest thing to a science journal I could find covering this..

The other articles and citations I found about this were from even less reliable sources. Maybe I missed something, but my alternatives were cryptozoo sites and the daily mail. I'd sort of like to know more about it.

Although the team has reached out to other specialists, no one has been able to find any evidence of anything similar having been found. The mystery monster seems to defy all known groups of organisms, Fine said, and descriptions, even pictures, leave people with more questions than answers.

Isn't that just saying "it's early days"? I don't know about "defy". I mean, I could imagine it's some kind of sponge easily. "Doesn't fit for sure" isn't "defies" at all.

Maybe it is something new but it doesn't seem terribly outlandish to me as an organism, although it's pretty big considering the competition at the time, it's not a giant at all.

Is monster now primarily a word that media use to arrest attention?

Neat find!

FYI, the Cambrian period was 542 to 488 MYA and the Ordovician period was 488 to 444 MYA. Both are within the Paleozoic Era (542 to 251 MYA).
