Skepdoc column on multiple personalities

Postby nell now » Mon Sep 03, 2012 6:16 pm

Upon reading Sybil Exposed, I think the two most interesting bits of information were 1) that Shirley and most other patients/clients undergoing treatment for multiple personalities were given hallucinogenic drugs every week and 2) that her temporary amnesia turned out to be caused by lack of vitamin B. This diagnosis was not given until late in her life, but could have saved her so many years of suffering. A relative of mine was told she had multiple personalities until the insurance company stopped paying for treatment. Tragically, she may still believe it.
