Probiotic yogourt
...or yogurt, yoghurt, yoghourt, yoghurd, yahourt, or however the heckurt you want to spellort the ****ert.
New study out of a Canadian university on probiotic [insert preferred spelling here]: http://www.mdpi.com/2072-6643/9/4/400/htm
Summary of conclusion:
Admittedly, "...there is only a small volume of literature investigating the health benefits of the probiotic strains used in the Canadian food supply. Thus, additional clinical trials, particularly ones that are not sponsored by the food industry, are needed...."
Here is a handy chart in pdf form that lays out how many "doses" of each of the studied probiotic [insert preferred spelling here]s the study found you would need to ingest in order to reap their claimed benefits: http://labbelab.utoronto.ca/wp-content/ ... -Chart.pdf
Based solely on that information, I'm going to suggest my mother switch from Activia to Yoptimal. She won't do it, of course, otherwise I would hesitate before suggesting it to her, because I am of course skeptical of the suggestion I'm going to make.
(On the other hand, I'll probably try some Yoptimal myself to see what it's like.)

The way I understand it, if one takes antibiotics, then tries to build gut bacteria up with probiotics, it's equivalent to cutting down a rain forest and planting corn.

Re: Probiotic yogourt
It depends what type and how much. Lots of fermented foods is very different from a little bit of live yoghurt.

Live yoghurt culture meets hydrochloric acid bath.

Re: Probiotic yogourt
I agree with Hills comment.
There are at least 200 species of beneficial bacteria in the human gut. Probiotics normally supply Lactobacillus, and not much else. That may be of minimal value, but it is not going to solve much. If you want to top up your beneficial bacteria, then find a very healthy person who has never taken antibiotics, and eat his/her sh!t. Even then, there is a big risk, since that person might be carrying pathogens.
