Yup. Looks serious. It may play well with his base, but it's going to have bad effects overall on the US economy. (Not to mention the US alliances. Oh, excuse me, did I just refer to our "allies"? What allies?)

I knew Thud couldn't help himself, he was going to do something stupid to really damage the economy. Even the Republicans know how stupid this is.

Samantha Bee called Iwanka a {!#%@}. Now she's in trouble for it. http://money.cnn.com/2018/05/31/media/s ... index.html

BS from the alt-right is equating her use of that word to the racism coming from the alt-righters. "Why aren't they jumping on her just like they did on Roseanne?"

equating: making two things that aren't the same equivalent in some way.

apes: unacceptably crosses the line when describing black africans

C-word: unacceptably crosses the line when describing them that has them

See the equation?

Gord: that is all quite true and informative................but.............you left out bananas.

Bananas: always good to throw at people AND to put on cornflakes. Its the emulsifier of fruits, if you get my incorrect analogy.

I mention this ONLY because for 2-3 years my standard quick go to work breakfast was one of each. Very satisfying......

She'll be in a little trouble. But do black people get in trouble for using the N-word? Last time I looked at her, Samantha Bee looked female to me. (Of course, I'm not her gynecologist.)

CNN wrote:"I disagree with this decision," House Speaker Paul Ryan, a Wisconsin Republican who had quietly tried to convince Trump to hold back on the action, said in a statement. Seems Iwanka shouldn't be so upset with joining the ranks of some notable women. I was just reminded that her own daddy reportedly honered Sally Yates with that same... nickname. Like he apparently also did with some other fine women he met along the way...

Cracked me up. Good one: american beer tastes like water. Reminds me of the joke How is American beer like having sex in a canoe? Its F-u-### close to water. Very clever word play.

I didn't drink beer in college. Didn't like it. Then on graduation, I did my European Trip and fell in love with "real" beer. For years now I have chosen Heineken. But on picking up Home Brewing a year ago as a hobby, I gave my beer choice a challenge: find something else. Sam Adams Lager comes pretty close. Stella Artoir (sp) comes in close. I like Rolling Rock too. The latter a bit closer to "water" than the first two.

I'm off discovering what I like. Tried very hoppy beers until they started to taste like grass. So back to Heineken which is 5 cents cheaper than Sam Adams which I'd be happy to drink. So now, I'm trying heavily malted beers. Ha, ha....back in my brew pub days, what I liked to do is order a heavy stout mixed with a light IPA. Probably...I won't like the heavy malt six pack I just got. Probably wind up mixing it with the hoppy beer I also don't like, and I'll be back to my brew pub choice.

.................sure do wish the canoe came fully equipped?

Different people being upset about different people being slandered does not demonstrate selective indignation. Few people object to Hillary being called..........whatever.

Eggs: Its just "words." any way to more specifically describe what you find disquieting? I experience discomfort when first hearing certain words. Always makes me think: why? And its only because I haven't heard them before. Then I am reminded of an old joke: its only perverted the first time you do it.

Eggs: Oh! totally not what you said........and yes, I find the issue uncomfortable as well but as advanced above....it is all about the "idea" of separating kiddies and parents....not any of the words at all.

course....kiddies and parents are separated all the time when CRIMES are being prosecuted...so I think the discomfort comes from the nature of the mental component of the parents involved here. I take some comfort that there are pros and cons to every position but at the end of the day kiddies and parents are either separated or they are not.

does seem to me the change in policy is mostly a ruse to discourage future illegals from bringing their kiddies with them? So, its a question of how deep we want to express our "humanity." In a vacuum, I'd come down on keeping the family together in whatever hell hole we thrown them into......which evidently is better than what they are fleeing from.....that WE had a large hand in creating.

Everything is connected to everything else........morality doesn't apply legalistic borders..........etc....

Thats my impression from the newsclip ending I saw. So, the "c" word is not often heard. It reveals a lack of writing talent on her show: the cheap laugh, from embarrassment rather than comedy or outrage. Pros and cons to all we do.

I don't see any "bad manners." Lack of support for recovery after a natural disaster?==>Yes. How much should be done, for how long, a constant question of public policy with: "Pros and Cons" no matter what we do.

With Puerto Rico, as with so many or most issues when they become reported on, what is always instructive is what is legal or the history of a situation rather than the current outrage that catches a headline. It took Maria for me to learn of the USA treatment of the island as a colony for all the years we have done. I don't think PR should be "a State" with all the rights and privileges....but they should be more integrated into our society.... I'm sure experts have some good ideas? Keeping them perpetually in debt and not allowed to declare bankruptcy seems like a pure economic play by our 1%, aka: total BS. Ha, ha.....trying to treat them as if they were any other central american country? A good life for some.... if its a choice and not a trap.

I see Paul Krugman is warning about the effects of the Trade War that he says is now on. Actually, it isn't---yet.

Krugman is right in general, but he hasn’t grasped that inconsistency is Trump’s main stock-in-trade. The NK summit was on, then off, then on again. The mirror image will occur with this trade war. This is Trump’s idea of bargaining; for him it’s all about bullying and bribing. Those are the only things he knows how to do, and he imagines they will work on the international level. They won’t.

In the Afghan War that immediately followed 9/11, we had the full backing of NATO. By the time Bush took us into Iraq in 2003, more than half of those allies had dropped out. With each new military venture since, we've had fewer and fewer partners. Soon, we'll be down to just the Canada, the UK, Saudia Arabia, and Israel. The Canadians won't send troops to NK; the last time they did that, 65 years ago, they lost a lot of people, and Saudia Arabia and Israel have no interest in the area. I'm even doubtful that Theresa May could get away with joining such a war. It would be up to the US and South Korea to go it alone. They'd win, to be sure, but allies....we wouldn't have any. Fortunately, I doubt if it will come to war.
"How do you teach events that defy knowledge, experiences that go beyond imagination? How do you tell children, big and small, that society could lose its mind and start murdering its own soul and its own future? How do you unveil horrors without offering at the same time some measure of hope? Hope in what? In whom? In progress, in science and literature and God?"

Riiiight... had not open or read the letter, but yet played like a fiddle. A kiddie fiddle maybe? Of course it could be the other way around...
