OK - that's the Australians on board. Now we need more international support. Let's face it - Boaty McBoatface would be the best-known exploration vessel ever.

Personally, I like the name Boaty McBoatface.

Never hold a public poll to name anything important. You'll just end up having to eat Crowy McCrowface.

I am intimately familiar with Shitty McShitface ... see him in the bathroom mirror from time to time.
I've come up with a set of rules that describe our reactions to technologies:
Spoiler:
1. Anything that is in the world when you’re born is normal and ordinary and is just a natural part of the way the world works.
2. Anything that's invented between when you’re fifteen and thirty-five is new and exciting and revolutionary and you can probably get a career in it.
3. Anything invented after you're thirty-five is against the natural order of things.

BOATY, NO-O-O-O-O-O-O!!

http://www.nydailynews.com/news/world/r ... -1.2571115

The Natural Environment Research Council said early on the vote would only be for “suggestions” of a name — leaving room for a veto should Boaty McBoatface prevail.

Last time anything like that happened, we executed the king.

OK - it wasn't QUITE like that and we haven't got a king at the moment, but it's the thought that counts.

Well - not too bad, I suppose. At least Boaty survives as a subsidiary.

They can't name a remote submersible vehicle "Boaty"! It's clearly a "Subby"! Subby McSubface!

I swear, the Brits are getting worse and worse at Teh Englarsh. What next? An aircraft carrier named Trainy McTrainface? Ridiculous!

I throw my hands up at the whole affair. :barf: Probably shouldn't have swallowed them in the first place, but I got excited.

They could name it Uboaty. Uboaty McUboatface.

Of course, if they prefer the long version, then it gets a bit silly: Unterseeboaty McUnterseeboatface.

UK settles ‘Boaty McBoatface’ row, names research ship after David Attenborough.

http://www.news.com.au/technology/onlin ... 3ba1e7c14b

Of course, David did "everything" but I'd think a more marine or ocean oriented bloke would have been more appropriate.....or maybe something to do with ice? (Boaty looks like an ice crusher to me....don't know if it is). Nobody comes to mind. How about: "Research vessel exploring the impact of Anthropomorphic Global Warming even as it is already too late". Not catchy..........HAH!==>not even timely. RATS.
