None of the cards in the second set are in the first set.
If the number of people believing something were true meant that it must be true, then the earth would be flat, we would have found WMDs in Iraq, and George W Bush would have been a good president.

I had to go through it three times before I even understood what it was trying to do. I thought it would show me the card I had picked, not a set of cards that didn't contain the card I picked! I mean, jeez, I could've done that myself! :P

As soon as I saw the topic, I suspected which card trick you were asking about. Classic misdirection. Concentrate really hard on the card you picked - don't worry so much about the others....

When I first saw it, I was shocked, but I knew there had to be a trick, and going through it a little more carefully revealed the answer.

Unfortunately, sometimes even knowing there's a trick doesn't help.

This card trick was in Scientific American two years ago and yes,.....I fell for it. The article was on "misdirection" and "Teller" from Penn & Teller was the photo spread subject which reinforces the very long term relationship Scientific American has had with pro-magicians. I would not mind if Scientific American had a monthly humerous column on analysing stage tricks and/or advertising deception and the related psychology.

That's really good. How did they do it ? What did you pick anyway ? My card was the King of Spades.

None of the cards at the end were among the cards from the beginning.

What did you pick anyway ?

I picked them all: King of Hearts, Jack of Clubs, King of Spades, Queen of Diamonds, Queen of Clubs, Jack of Diamonds.

My card was the King of Spades.

It doesn't matter. The cards at the end are: Queen of Hearts, King of Clubs, Jack of Hearts, Queen of Spades, King of Diamonds. You couldn't pick any of those from the six they offered in the beginning.

It's a "trick." We've all be "tricked," whether we figured it out or not.
