How random can you be?

If the red house has blue shutters and the green house has red shutters, what's this section for?

How random can you be?

Postby Gord » Wed Oct 25, 2017 12:09 am

Here's a link to an online test: http://people.ischool.berkeley.edu/~nic ... index.html

Their website detects pseudorandomness and uses it to guess which key you'll press next.

I had it down 45% for a moment, but then it went up to 78% accuracy at guessing what I would type next. Now I've got it back down to 55%, but it took a lot of thought to fool it after a while!

Is oxycontin allowed? Performance enhancer for randomness.

I was pretty well pegged at 70% which is hard to believe as I was totally random........hitting 5-6 keys at a time or both keys at once.

the way to do get it down to 50% is to realize that random patterns include lot's of 'runs.' hit 'd' about 10 times then 'f' about 10 times then intersperse a 'd' or 'f' within runs of various lengths (even as many as 20+). you can add a few 'd,f,d,f' if you like as well (which are obviously not random). watch the percentage as you do these things. cool application.

It takes a few seconds for it to register when I do it. I think it doesn't respond for a small number of inputs at the beginning because it's calculating your pattern before it tries to guess what you'll type next.

I'm wondering about this. The more times I push the two keys, the more often it will have to recalculate to work out my pattern. It would also have to "guess" when my pattern starts over each time even though it is probably a new pattern each time.

Therefore I'm guessing the prediction rate will reduce towards 50% if I were to spend a day attempting to randomly push the two keys. ( I'm still thinking about this.)
