Creationist sues Grand Canyon

Postby Gord » Tue Jul 11, 2017 11:36 am

...and the Grand Canyon caved to his demands. :P

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m7YLRG50tEs

http://www.iflscience.com/environment/a ... he-wanted/

...A creationist was attempting to sue the authorities managing the Grand Canyon because they weren’t letting him go and collect samples....

...The National Park Service (NPS) has caved in to his requests to retrieve samples from the 1.84-billion-year-old Grand Canyon, and as a result, Snelling has dropped his lawsuit....

...Academic research is indeed allowed in the Grand Canyon, but as the site is one of such immense scientific importance, it’s limited to a select few academics who will use any samples taken for serious scientific research.

Snelling has lectured on countless occasions about how the Bible is literally true and how the Grand Canyon is proof that Noah’s Ark and the Great Flood really did happen. Although the exact motivations behind his Grand Canyon project have never been explicitly stated, it’s clear what he’ll be attempting to use the samples to disprove....

...Their acquiescence on this matter hasn’t been elucidated upon, but it’s likely they were concerned that people would accuse them of censorship if they stuck to their guns. Whatever the reason, we now have to watch a scientist conduct pseudoscience in the name of fundamentalist religion.

Hooray! Idiots will be gushing about this somewhere! We can make fun of them if that's what turns our cranks!

The final result will be a display. Two rocks on a table. One labeled "From Great Flood". The other labeled "From Great Flood". There will be merry confusion when somebody notices they got the labels mixed up.

I'm waiting for his explanation of how The Great Flood carved out Valles Marineris.

Well, we'd better let him go take samples!

That's what the Grand Canyon decided, too.

Of course, the whole point of restricting the site is to keep numbskulls from looting the place and destroying the evidence. I doubt this guy will be the thin end of any wedge -- we shouldn't expect to see every Tom, Dick and Jesus getting to tromp around the place so they can take rocks home to put in their personal Garden of Eden recreations as a result.

Science says the Canyon is 1.8 billion years old. A handful of rocks won't disprove that.

Actually, the present day Grand Canyon is only 6 million years old, though geologists believe there were earlier canyons, up to 70 million years ago.

I suspect, Gawd, that what you mean is that the lowest strata were laid down 1.8 billion years ago ?

Yeah, and that's the area he wants to take rocks from, IIRC.

Some of the rocks on the moon's surface are a few billion years old. Is he going to sue NASA too?

Personally, I've always wondered why these creationists and biblical literalists don't see the hypocrasy of their actions. Science and modern medicine permeate every aspect of our existence.

If they hate science, let them go live like the Amish or some of the Mennonites. Let them avoid vaccines, antibiotics, cars, modern food distribution, etc..

For 90% of them, doing without science for a month will show them how miserable their ancestors really were.

I have no patience with them.

No no, don't you see, they think God invented those things. It's the same thing when someone saves their lives, like a fireman or a doctor -- God did those things, not the fireman or the doctor. God is everything that surrounds them. They are blind to reality, so ascribe everything in their lives to God.

Ice cream? That was God. Roofs on houses? Yup, God did that too. The vegetables that they buy from the supermarket? Oh you bet God put that there!

You may have forgotten that they don't actually read the Babble, so they can BS themselves into thinking that "this is part of God's plan". God gave them cancer, science cures it, God gets the credit for creating science.

Why does an individual have to go as far as suing in order to collect some dirt? If it's because of "such immense scientific importance" it makes the ground sound sacred.
