One of the great uses of a literary quotation appears today in a comment on The Washington Post website by user "czubek". (and no, I don't know who that is.)

The article:
"Shocking photos of starving ‘witch’ toddler inspire massive donations."
by Peter Holley

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/wor ... ge%2Fstory

From the article;
Danish aid worker Anja Ringgren Lovén reports: “Thousands of children are being accused of being witches and we’ve both seen torture of children, dead children and frightened children," she wrote. "This footage shows why I fight."
Belief in witchcraft is widespread in parts of Africa, according to United Nations Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF). In 2010, the agency warned that a growing number of adults and children were being accused of witchcraft, leading to killings and shunning.

Now, the quote "czubek" used as a comment;

“Yossarian marveled that children could suffer such barbaric sacrifice without evincing the slightest hint of fear or pain. He took for granted that they did submit so stoically. If not, he reasoned, the custom would certainly have died, for no craving for wealth or immortality could be so great, he felt, as to subsist on the sorrow of children.”
― Joseph Heller, Catch-22

Bush further stated in June 1992 to Sarah McClendon the Grandam of the Washington White House Press Corps when she asked Bush what will the people do if they ever find out the truth about Iraq-gate and Iran-Contra? George H W Bush Replied: Sarah, If the people were to ever find out what we have done, we would be chased down the streets and lynched.

I am too much of a sceptic to deny the possibility of anything — especially as I am now so much occupied with theology — but I don't see my way to your conclusion. -- Thomas Henry Huxley, in a letter to Herbert Spencer (22 March 1886); this is often quoted with a variant spelling as: I am too much of a skeptic to deny the possibility of anything.

Seems to me you have posted this quote before and there was some discussion about it? Rare that a mere 10 words can ever "explain" anything. Reality needs more of an explanation. Before I google the saying, I have to say that Religion by definition is blind with or without any inclusion of science. Religion is "about" the blind.

Nice review of Einsteins statement. OF COURSE, he did not use the concept of Religion in the same way most charlatans and quackers do. An excellent short read about science/religion/mankind in general:

"Absence of proof is proof of a cover-up"

Or something like that
I've come up with a set of rules that describe our reactions to technologies:
Spoiler:
1. Anything that is in the world when you’re born is normal and ordinary and is just a natural part of the way the world works.
2. Anything that's invented between when you’re fifteen and thirty-five is new and exciting and revolutionary and you can probably get a career in it.
3. Anything invented after you're thirty-five is against the natural order of things.

Seth- "The human race is a stage though which various forms of consciousness travel.
Before you can be allowed into systems of reality that are more extensive and open, you must first learn to handle energy; and see, through physical materialization, the concrete result of thought and emotion.”

"In more advanced systems, thoughts and emotions are automatically and immediately translated into action... Therefore, the lessons must be taught and learned well. The responsibility for creation must be clearly understood.”

I am so grateful. All this time I thought Trump had invented a new obnoxious word, "bigly," as a synonym for "huge." Thanks to today's [Doonesbury] strip I realize he's actually been saying "big league." Not since I discovered that Creedence Clearwater Revival was singing about "a bad moon on the rise" and not "a bathroom on the right" have I felt so enlightened.
