So... I was driving home from work this morning and I saw a near omnipresent - at least in Texas - Icthyos adhesive on a car in front of me -- this after seeing a "Truth" fish eating a "Darwin" fish (and yes, my irony meter literally blew up when I saw it) last night, I came upon an idea for a similar Icthyos/Darwin fish idea for a symbol that might universally appeal to both secular and religious skeptics.
As I see it, since skepticism is a process, and not a wedded position, the proper symobol of skepticism is something that combines the question ("where is the evidence" or "is this too good to be true") with the investigation of the claim (seeing how many dowsers are accurate or how many Nigerian war widows come through with their promises of millions).
My idea for a skeptical symbol was the combination of a question mark and the stereotypical (and now hopelessly outdated - but still cuturally relevant) magnifying glass. At a stop light on my commute, I drew an awful prototype which I'm hoping someone with better design or graphics skills than myself can produce.
If any of you out there can come up with a decent looking chimera of a question mark and magnifying glass, I'd really love to see it. Maybe it will be good enough to grace websites and vehicles as ubiquitously as the Icthyos and Darwin Fish.
