So do I.

and there are certainly a good number of potential female candidates who could potentially be good presidents but is it wrong to just say that right now, the Democratic party shouldn't even consider a man as their 2020 choice?

I think it would seems rather weird if all their future candidates would be female. :-P

Your USA political parties are very different to ours. We don't have primaries. In elections, we vote for the party and not the individual candidate. The party chooses the prime minister.

However, this didn't do much good down here anyway. Our Labor (Socialist) party had internal secret votes and our Labor prime minister was swapped two times, between two people, in a row, for absolutely no sensible reason. The voters got sick of this and threw out Labor for the Liberal Party. Now they are having secret internal votes.

Sod everything. Just be responsible and elect someone who isn't Donald Trump. It's not difficult - you now know where you went wrong.
(NOTE: the assumption is that you won't be so silly as to elect a DT follow-up act. You couldn't. You COULDN'T. TELL ME YOU COULDN'T!).
(And don't give me bull about 'this is about a Dem nomination'. This is the world speaking. It's going to be Dem - just make sure it's also sensible).
[Yes, I have, and I've thoroughly enjoyed it!].

You can give up on the 'best person for the job' nonsense. Anyone who would qualify for 'best person for the job' wouldn't touch it with a Wehrmacht.

ps: Yes, I know that is the No True 'best person for the job' fallacy, but I don't care.

He's got some conflicting viewpoints...voting yes on protecting ocean and inland ecosystems while simultaneously supporting offshore drilling and coal. He talks about gun control, but voted against banning high-capacity magazines. And he takes some weird moral positions, like favoring the death penalty but believing that internet porn is a problem that needs to be "fought."

Not that he doesn't have good qualities, but the conflicting viewpoints appear to speak, not to an ethical stance, but making decisions based on financial advantages for Virginia and maintaining personal power. You can't claim to be an environmentalist if you support offshore drilling and coal. You can't claim to be in favor of gun control, then vote against a gun control bill. It's stuff like this that I find disturbing.

I consider myself a feminist, and I would say we need the most qualified person, regardless of gender, race, etc. There's no point running a female candidate who's either unqualified (Palin comes to mind) or just a poor choice to attract voters (like Hillary), just for the sake of running a female candidate.

Honestly, I'd like to see the ticket be a man and a woman, with either one being at the top of the ticket, depending on qualifications.

I agree. I was just asking. It's just the tired, old recipes that call for rich old white dudes club kind of fits the definition of insanity.
And I don't think just being female automatically qualifies you, your example of Palin is a good one. In my opinion, republican christian women are forced to wear a burqa of the mind, in many ways. Kellyanne Conway, that Huckabee-Sanders propagandist, to name a couple.

Well said! At the same time, anyone except a white dude would require also holding both houses of Congress, or nothing would get done because of knee-jerk bigotry.

Also well said! You have a unique way with words, Az. It boggles the mind that there are female, non-white, and/or non-heterosexual Republicans in 2018. I don't get it at all. Self-hatred? Or stupidity?

The Porter case in the White House, now one of the longer-lasting Trump scandals, shows a glimpse into the current US mood: a large portion of the electorate is more concerned with a wife-beater being close to the president than the security implications.
In the last Election, Democrats tried to avoid a Woman vs. Man campaign. In 2020, they should make sure that they do.

For the past year or so, I've been given the distinct impression that WTF? has become the norm in US politics (not that the UK is exactly immune from those moments). But then I don't really understand US politics and the (seemingly apparent to me) stuff the Trump, Trumpets and Trumpettes are getting away with. Sorry about the preposition at the end of a sentence.
EDIT - Of course, I'm assuming that she's a Democrat. I could be reading that wrong too.
EDIT2 - Anyway, blame JO - he put me onto her.

WTF? has, apparently, always been the norm in US politics. This may not be a popular opinion, but when every single citizen, regardless of intelligence, has the right to vote, the result will always be bread & circuses. People who don't think critically vote based on their emotions, their gullibility to propaganda, and whether the candidate shares their world view, however skewed it might be. They don't vote based on the candidate's voting record. Most don't even know it's possible to examine a voting record. It's eminently frustrating.

Why Is Amazon Running a Full Page of "Michelle Obama for President" T-Shirts?
https://www.unz.com/mwhitney/why-is-ama ... -t-shirts/

Why is Amazon running a full page of “Michelle Obama for President” T-Shirts? What does Bezos know that we don’t know?

And why did Michelle decide to launch her new book on November 13th, 2018, just a week after the midterm elections? Was that merely a coincidence or was the date chosen by her political advisors for some other reason?

...

After the ballots are counted, Michelle is going launch her 30-city book tour during which time large throngs of frenzied supporters will ‘spontaneously’ pop up everywhere demanding that their favorite liberal icon throw her hat in the ring and join the fight against ‘evil’ Trump. I can almost hear her yielding to their feverish pleas already:

“I don’t want to be president, but I will do it for you, my people.”

...

1) Seems like awfully fanciful speculation to me.

2) Yet more plausible than Trump 2016 would have seemed in 2014, had anyone mentioned it.

Exclusive: Democrats, anticipating heated primary, set earlier 2020 convention date (CNN)

(CNN)Democrats will hold their convention in 2020 earlier than they have in more than two decades, Democratic operatives tell CNN, partly out of anticipation of a crowded and contentious primary.

The Democratic National Convention is slated to take place from July 13 to July 16, 2020, almost two weeks earlier than the 2016 convention.

...

Never mind how they spin it.

This means the fix is already in even if the party bosses haven't decided who it's in for just yet.
So no like-Trump-but-a-Democrat upsets.

Speculation should be adjusted accordingly.

Bernie was no more that a Democrat of convenience in 2016 after a career of being the big fish in the small pond of the Vermont Socialist Party (or whatever it was called).

That was why he didn't get the memo about not running against Hillary as part of the fix being in for 2016.

The election was so close that a case can be made it was Bernie Bros staying home that cost Hillary the election. Not the only factor of course, but maybe just enough.

I'm not definitively taking that line, but it's "obvious" enough that it will be on the minds of the Democrat Machine.

Hence, the early convention. Not as a slap to Bernie per se, but to prevent something like that next time.
