The classic rock of WAQY, Rock 102.1. I just had a weird thought...nearly all the '90s qualifies as classic rock now.
What are the facts? Again and again and again-what are the facts? Shun wishful thinking, ignore divine revelation, forget what “the stars foretell,” avoid opinion, care not what the neighbors think, never mind the unguessable “verdict of history”--what are the facts, and to how many decimal places? You pilot always into an unknown future; facts are your single clue. Get the facts!

I have to say, from what I've heard, they play some good music.

But I'm really interested in the ads.

I've travelled a lot. And the ads tell me a lot about the local culture. The music, too. :)

Well, few listeners; we've had two callers. One was right out there in the stars, and one was right down in the groove...

Who's next...?

BBC Radio 4 - not local in any way, but the only station I listen to (and I can get it on the net too). No one plays much of the music I like, so I play my own collection. The local stations here provide the definition of the word 'parochial', which doesn't suit me. When I was much younger, I listened to Radio Luxembourg on AM Medium Wave (yeah - really that long ago) which actually played early Rolling Stones when the Stones were themselves early. It was a distant station which constantly faded in and out. For some reason, I look back on the abysmal reception fondly.
When I first read Kurt Vonnegut's 'Hey ho' (or was it 'Hi Ho'?) line, I knew what he meant.

I'd link you to my local stations but they're {!#%@}.
Our classic rock station's motto should be "playing the hits you haven't heard in 24 hours!"
The hard rock station plays (I realize I sound like the guy I hated as a teenager but these kids these days don't know what good music is. I mean, I can't understand what they're crying about. We {!#%@} banged our heads, ran to the hills, rock and rolled all night and partied everyday, went round and round, shouted at devils, sought and destroyed, what the hell is a green manalishi?, but I have no idea what these youngsters are doing?) crap.
Am I old? Did I turn into my dad?
Anyway, Dallas radio sucks.
This is a sentence. tHi5 iz a seN+3nce oN drUgs!!!

Every recorded song has two basic royalties. The publishing (composition ) royalty and the phonographic (artist or "needle-drop") royalty. As a general rule 1.5% of all advertising generated during public broadcasting is paid to the composition's music publisher.

However before the 1980's most composers sold their compositions to music publishers, for an advance on a 50/50% share of royalties collected. Nowadays it is more 80/20% in the composer's favour.

Therefore music publishers with older songs can give a kickback to a broadcaster if the broadcaster plays older songs......and that's why we have "Hits of the 50's to 80's" radio stations.
:D

Is radio done-for?

Do kids ever listen to radio any more, outside their parents' cars?

Mine don't. Possibly because I only have a working radio in my car... That might be a contributing factor...

In my day, the transistor radio (or, the tranny), was the iPod shuffle! :oldman:

Indeed I did. It had a speaker the size of a biscuit, but it kept me company. Until the batteries ran out - which happened in direct proportion with the distance to the nearest shop selling batteries.

I remember buying my very first tranny with my pocket money. It was four bucks. Which is about a billion in adjusted currency.

I haven't listened to the radio (AM/FM/XM) of my own volition since probably 2005.

You just need to invert the sine wave to receive Australian radio.

Don't let 'em sell you that "digital gives you a better, clearer signal" {!#%@}.

We all know by now a bit of analogue static on a signal is better than a total drop. The "digital cliff".

I often listen to talk radio from Sacramento, California and news stations in the New York City area.
Listening twice as much as you speak is a sign of wisdom.

Well, I'm not slaved to anything, and Sirius works as well as anything else, so I'm good to go.

I live on the digital cliff. A whiff of cloud or a slight breeze can disrupt all communication.

And they told us CDs were virtually indestructable. The slightest scratch, and they're toast.

Or you can polish the scratch out. That's the NOT DUMB way to handle a scratched CD.
