Dunno, but I suspect it's just some dude trying to emigrate illegally.

See if you can find a way to appease him.

Someone paid for my father's cup of coffee at the coffee shop, which annoyed him greatly. He ranted about it all day.

You should take better care of him. Make sure he has shaved, bathed, and is wearing better clothing and especially shoes without those holes in them.

That`s OK... `cause then they might think he is doing a good deed - having picked up a bum from the streets.

Good, you seem to have missed a great opportunity for improving yet another member of your family who raises your irritation to such an non-containable level, causing you dash into the Forum seeking solace for the (ahem) cross nature has caused you to bear.

But it's not too late!! "Giving Tuesday" is a state of mind, and "Giving Whenever" probably works just as well.if not better: why not alert Dad to the therapeutic value of an Interest Forum... maybe, (if you can handle the parental -filial competition) even this high-purpose one?

Then he can rant away non-stop, while lift his spirits as he senses he is engaged in an exercise of the intellect , perhaps even convinces himself that he is making friends of like mind in the process.

You would then be free to hear him ONLY when you chose to do so... tuning in (so to speak) and tuning out.
And just think!! You could occasionally have your own great therapeutic moment of announcing '"YOU ARE ON "IGNORE!!" (Wow!! It gave me the delicious frisson of power just to TYPE that!!)
Only trying to help,

What's Norma on about now?

Actually, don't bother.

I care not for solace, I only like to spread what I find humorous.

But it's not too late!! "Giving Tuesday" is a state of mind, and "Giving Whenever" probably works just as well.if not better: why not alert Dad to the therapeutic value of an Interest Forum... maybe, (if you can handle the parental -filial competition) even this high-purpose one?

I call it "the Christmas spirit".

My father won't post on the internet. He won't even check his own email. He makes my mother do that.

Then he can rant away non-stop, while lift his spirits as he senses he is engaged in an exercise of the intellect , perhaps even convinces himself that he is making friends of like mind in the process.

He can't rant away unless someone is listening to him. Nor does he rant while engaged in an exercise of the intellect (which I'm guessing is what he's doing while teaching).

You would then be free to hear him ONLY when you chose to do so... tuning in (so to speak) and tuning out.

He's already hard enough to hear. His hearing is poor, and he doesn't seem to understand that he's mumbling, especially in crowded places like coffee shops and malls.

And just think!! You could occasionally have your own great therapeutic moment of announcing '"YOU ARE ON "IGNORE!!" (Wow!! It gave me the delicious frisson of power just to TYPE that!!)

I wouldn't find that very therapeutic. I'm more of a creative person. I like to knit pipe bombs, for instance.
