I'm not against your prerogative, but perhaps I'm mistaken about how or why people go to certain forums. I think that it is hard to determine this and wonder if how certain forums appear to be defined may mislead what the majority of people actually use those forums for. This may be the reason why some forums are dying as this thread opened with.
I came here from the Skeptic's Annotated Bible forum. I like arguing against right wing and bizarre claims. That's just me. I can't speak for others

I slightly disagree with Pyrrho's earlier negative comment concerning "themed" forums. However, I am thinking about concepts from other medias, for example "niche magazines" remain small and profitable, yet "general interest" magazines are failing due to lack of loyalty and direct competition with peers. I like to think this is a "themed forum" but I'm just a member and the owners make the decisions.

Scott Mayers wrote:Again, this is why I try to address issues about behavior, like how the "Holocaust Section" could be self-defeating by placing it up front; like the "ignore" button; or, like how various other sites use "junk" sections. I've also tried to be equally oppositional to others' claims even where I may actually agree because I thought it would only benefit us all in some way by being adversarial and fair.
Don't try to understand that sub forum. No one has anyone on ignore in that sub forum and the posts don't actually reflect what is "going on" as "commentary" occurs, on other forums, about what is posted here. That's what some of us, participating in that sub forum, are actually reading and monitoring.

Hmmmm I was hoping for a more "posed photo" for my future "cut & paste" activities.
If you get a chance can you recreate and take photos of the following scenes

* The Dennis Hopper "mummy" scene from Blue Velvet,
* The "there's an alien jumping out of my chest" scene from Alien,
* Any Woody Allen pose where he is trying to look sexy.

Thanks Gord.

I don't have any of those in my movie collection. Are there any poses you'd like me to try from one of the My Little Pony movies?

I have that one! The footwear that appears on #2 is a bit confusing, since it disappears again on #3.

Well......that's part of your "challenge" when recreating the poses. You should send your feet to a method acting school so they can "convey" the disappearing shoes through sympathetic emotional body language.

Additionally, if you look at pose 3#, you are not wearing any underpants. I have received 482 private messages from other forum members asking me to remove pose 3# from our contract.

But that's not my main issue. I grew up reading books on werewolves and vampires. For some reason you have a collection of movies on wereponies.. Is this a Canadian cultural thing?

Wereponies are a hidden universal threat that is slowly being exposed through cartoons.

Note that My Little Pony is owned by Hasbro, which also owns Dungeons & Dragons.

So......you are saying that when you last ordered some Dungeons & Dragons paraphernalia, that the marketing geniuses at Hasbro, included free "My Little Pony" promotional material?

Hmmm. Either the marketing managers at Hasbro should be taken outside and shot, or Dungeon & Dragon players are bit wimpy in the northern hemisphere.

In Australia we role the dice to see which player has to beat the other player to death with a club. We don't worry about the board game.

2. I don't order stuff from Hasbro, I make it myself. :P

Fair enough. I sort of already knew that. Dungeons and Dragons is a name given to a variety of related activities. I assume, as you bought and painted figurines, that you were or still are, a desk top, face to face, player. I was the same for Napoleonic war-gaming until computers replaced "the felt".
Waterloo.jpg

I thought it was a dying activity until I wandered into town one day to buy paint and noticed a Warhammer club. There were thirty or so young boys and blokes standing around four or so tables vigorously measuring distances with tape. It cheered me up.

Although our hobbies appear to be a "bit nerdy" I take comfort that Napoleon and members of the general staff all studied using these same sort of tools. I tried to find, but couldn't, a photo of Prince William fighting the battle of Isandlwana in a sandbox, at Sandhurst Military Academy. I think we are simply playing over complicated version of chess.

The "real" sandbox wargames with the "real" military units from "history" -- those are the good ol' tabletop games! The fantasy Warhammer slop always made me cringe away from the hobby.

I play old-school AD&D, first edition. We only use the figures to give a vague idea of individual's positions in the adventuring party, or as general idea of who's facing which enemies. The later editions (may the Gygax smite them!) turned the game into a square-by-square mess of unrealistic "stand in one spot while people try to kill you" video game wannabe.

I once saved an entire forum to my hard drive on the final day before the place shut down for good. That was three or four computers ago, though, and that hard drive is long gone; so in the end, I just took up space that could've been used for...well, I dunno, maybe video games or whatever.

The Marilyn Vos Savant Forum iz missing. The entire site iz gon. :(

I'v been getting "Bandwidth limit exeeded" for a few dayz. Seemz like that woud indicate a denial uv service attack. I hav the impression that hak attacks get stopped pretty kwik and thingz are back to normal in a day or less.

Its been getting slower there for yirz and wuz never very activ. I'm worried that she just got tired uv it and let it expire.

I didn't know she "had" a website. Too bad, I'd like to have visited it. Some feminist show last night said the worlds two smartest people shown by IQ testing are both women. I assume the third was some dude?

She always came across well in Parade Magazine.... I assume in person too?
