What are the facts? Again and again and again-what are the facts? Shun wishful thinking, ignore divine revelation, forget what “the stars foretell,” avoid opinion, care not what the neighbors think, never mind the unguessable “verdict of history”--what are the facts, and to how many decimal places? You pilot always into an unknown future; facts are your single clue. Get the facts!

There is a new Russian tank movie called 28 Panfilov. It was independent and could not afford computer graphics, so they went for models, miniatures and slow motion effects.

I like this, because big computer graphics production houses have become very good at producing the same visual scenario and therefore you see the same "battle scene" in movie after movie. With miniatures and models, there is so much more that can go wrong, so at least you get variety.

Thunderbirds are GO!

It also appears they can't afford safety goggles.

Yes, filming seemed dangerous. Eye damage, fire, smoke inhalation -- wow. A real battlefield.

That was enjoyable, although a paintball has a pretty low muzzle velocity.

You never see tanks fire actual rounds in movies. They always shoot blanks. As you can imagine shooting out a 10 kilo shell at 2,000 metes a second, not only makes the gun recoil but also makes the entire tank jump backwards.

I only learned a couple years ago that in high velocity tank guns, the charge explodes slowly and keeps expanding "air" for the entire duration the shell is in the barrel, so as to reduce kickback.

And don't stand anywhere near the pointy end, especially if it has a muzzle-brake. The side blast can literally shred you alive, as a few unfortunate souls have discovered personally.

You should have a look at Lindy's other videos. He likes tanks.

I watched his video on muzzle brakes. He used all the special code language.

"I made model plastic tanks when I was young"
(Translates : Hello fellow humans with IQs of over 180)

"The puma armoured car had a muzzle brake"
(Translates : Your secret world government instructions will be encoded in an article on the Puma SdKfz 234/2 in the next edition of Military Modeller International magazine)

"The Puma was, of course, German"
(Translates : I'm currently having regular sex with Uma Thurman)

I made fighter jets. My favourite was the F-111. I had several in different regalia. But when I moved out of home I chucked them, and all my model-building kit, in the bin. That was for kids.

But I set some on fire and threw them across the yard in epic explosions, so they died well.

My parents kept my 1970's German tank collection. They gave them back to me when I was 40. I now have a specially built room, with under-shelf LED lights and add to the collection.

(I had exam and work anxiety "problems" around that time. I started to take a day off, now and then, from the human race, listen to classical music and make a new tank. That works for me. )

Well, now that you mention it, no. I had no idea Skeptic had a YouTube channel. But now I do, I'm subbed.

Maybe they need a better marketing team?

It would be really hard to define the target audience for Skeptic Magazine and products.

The Society aims to promote science so there is no point targeting those who already follow science. Therefore, what is the next best target? I'm guessing children, so you can get them thinking when they are young.

It would seem to me that the greatest maximum effect would be some sort of segment on something like Sesame Street, but them how do you make "logic" entertaining and yet still get kiddies to understand it?

The videos are absolutely not targeted at children. I hope. I mean, if they are, someone is terrible at their job. Unless they're targeting nerd children? That could be it. I would have been interested in them when I was a child, anyway. What I'm saying is, they aren't targeting the entire spectrum of children....

I remember the exact moment I became a skeptic. I was 11 in grade 5. A teacher was teaching us about the weather, and he said rain was measured in millilitres.

I pointed out it was millimetres. Depth rather than volume. He said I should watch the weather report on the news, and I said HE should watch the weather report!

So I got sent to the principal. I was all for it, because this teacher was wrong!

Had my interview with the principal, explained my position, she agreed.

Ah, the olden days when reason meant something. :)

And now for something completely different...........every boy's dream.........a large remote control tank battle.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p5nMJ4rBgBk

Those traitorous childlike bastards who have model train sets have very small video cameras that sit in the leading locomotive. That way the owners can view their model train layout from the point of view of a train driver. I think this model tank battle should be done in the same way. That way we can develop children on the cheap to grow up and kill more people using USAF video controlled drones. :D
