My sister-in-law, who is very surprisingly travelling the same general path, but is a couple of months ahead of me - has ordered a custom rag. More important for her than for me, me thinks. As of 2010 there were only 14 cases in the scientific literature that matched her pathology. I`m still believed to be within the 5%, so less frequent than most, but not rare.

I`ll take a pass on the rag….

On the other hand... I have graduated from a headlight to a beacon. Sigh...
A possible cure?! And now operable? :yahoo: Best thing I've heard all day, TJ!

Are you sure it isn't bronchitis? That's been going around in my neck of the woods. I've recovered, but still have an occasional cough.

I had bronchitis once (or so the doctor said). It was horrible. I would definitely not have designed the human being that way. ;)

Horrible...yes. Given evolution's design of the lungs, the severe cough that accompanies bronchitis is a fairly effective mechanism for trying to rid the body of excess mucus before a bacterial infection moves in.

My daughter and I were fortunate; ours was merely viral. Neither of us even went to the doctor, since our sputum was clear. My dad, who has COPD and recently had surgery for lung cancer, ended up in hospital with a bacterial infection. Still, it was about a month ago that we all first got sick...and we all still have a bit of a cough.

Today was drizzly, cool, no sun, and perfect for working outside. So I got out the hedge trimmers and a 3 legged ladder and went to work on the ornamental trees and shrubs which line one of the border roads. Filled two one cubic meter garden bags with the trimmings. In all of about three hours I got a good hours` worth of work done. ;)

A HUGE adult male black bear just meandered through my front yard, stopped briefly to cool off in the brook, then went to visit my neighbor (to whom I sent a warning text). My dogs starting barking, and I figured it was just another damn cat. Nope. Gigantic bear. Very cool to see.

I have met bears while walking on dirt roads far from civilisation.

They're nice. Usually they run away, but if you're very very lucky, they will come right up to you and kill you. That's why it's always important to carry a camera with you. Bears will not eat cameras. The authorities will be able to identify you from your selfies.

My daughter and I remained safely across the brook and on the deck...one floor up and right next to the front door. He was utterly uninterested in the two humans trying desperately to maintain a zenlike silence whilst trying to get photos. I'm pretty sure I saw him roll his eyes a couple times.

I've had two bear encounters while camping/hiking in the High Sierra Nevada mountains. Once in my tent he was outside stealing our food just one day into a one week trip. We had to beg food on the trail after that one. Stringing food between trees doesn't work...........bears being well know tree climbers. But not keeping food in your tent was good advice.

The second was a smallish bear walking into our camp near dusk. The fear was Momma was behind him somewhere. We politely told him to go away.........and he did.

Nature. Like Politics..... good only to the degree it doesn't bite you in your ass.

Yep. Best to have an airtight cooler so the odors can't escape. Bear sightings are fairly common in my yard; they're drawn by my wild raspberries and my neighbor's peach trees. Usually, they're just juveniles. Seeing a full-grown adult or a momma with cubs is rare.

Frankly, it's the city's fault. They keep allowing developers to clear-cut, then build neighborhoods of McMansions. It's ruining the waterways via erosion, and displacing the wildlife. Then they complain when the bear are at their bird feeders.

Make sure that cooler has drawers for drawers so they don't draw wildlife.

Johnny Depp, His pet dogs and the Deputy Prime Minister of Australia.

This is a fun Australian story. A year ago, Johnny Depp came to Australia to film a Pirates of the Caribbean movie. Mr Depp flew in, in his private plane and brought his two dogs, which he did not put through quarantine, as required.

The Deputy Prime Minister, Barnaby Joyce, said that Mr Depp had to remove his dogs from Australia or that they would be destroyed and the law was the same for everyone. Mr Depp flew his dogs home.

Today, the Deputy Prime Minister discovered he is a dual citizen of New Zealand. Sec 44 of the Australian Constitution does not allow dual citizens to become members of Parliament.

Some Australian media has asked Mr Depp to fly back to Australia and take the Deputy Prime Minister to New Zealand or we will have him destroyed. Johnny Depp has a good sense of humour and I'm waiting for his public comment.

My very best days at work..........did tie with good vacation days. So did the worst (with the worst). In some ways (work and vacation) I've lead a charmed life.

It's also winter in Australia and I found person available to stay with my cat.

Matt: enjoy. The distances and requirement of a car are a bit extreme.....all depending on your shopping. Amazon and New Egg for everything I want......besides food and booze. California is "remarkably" like Australia. Don't think the rest of the Country can make that statement.
