Since at least the 80s. When I worked at Burger King, all their burgers were referenced in the training manuals as "sandwiches". Same thing with McDonalds, I was told.

I think it was used for legal purposes. Something to do with taxes, too, I believe. You know how government regulations are. I suspect that if you just called it a burger, then legally you could get away without providing the bun with it. But I'm just making this up as I go, based on previous experience with weirdness.

There a scene in the movie "Oh Lucky Man" at a strip club, where the audience screams for the "chocolate sandwich show". I had no idea what that meant. A black gentleman then walks on to stage with two white English girls.

I will let your imagination explain what happens next, because the next scene is not in the movie.

Apparently, on their way to camps, refugee children are being taken to the showers before not seeing their parents again as was promised? No, I'm not talking about a horrible time gone past, but about America today.

Why aren't they storming the government facilities holding these kids?

I'm sure there were haircuts as well?........but no collection of teeth........as yet.

I have seen two different video reports of the child detention center that looks like an old Target Store that went out of business. It is described as a prison...with only two hours a day allowed outside in the fresh air, no windows. And...yeah it has certain of those attributes. But if you don't have a horse ranch and 10 times the number of adults to supervise.........what ya gonna do?

Oh....so one report really emphasized the prison angle: standing in line and so forth. the other was happy news, that the kiddies were getting health care and an education while waiting for Mom & Pop.

It is so very easy to criticize.......but what are the options? (Yea....I know....keeping the family together......but one other news show said their "detention center" was (all or mostly?) for kiddies that arrived seeking asylum all on their own. You know..........all the facts vary..........you an write your own story.

Unaccompanied kids aren't unusual. What's new is that they separate refugees* to make them think twice about daring to ask. And also changed the rules, to make some (many?) of them criminals. Who had no idea that that was about to happen before they set out on their journey. As to the converted store, it's reported that that is run by a nonprofit and in a seemingly sensible way (it's all boys, it seems? If so, where are the little girls?). But now they are preparing camps for the kids elsewhere.

There are near a dozen or more of these kiddie detention centers sprung up to serve the load. I think mostly privately owned.........so just like for profit prisoners given a guaranteed occupancy, I don't see "the laws" or their enforcement changing very easily.

As to the Biblical....I've heard tale end snippets of that. Some quote.

Ha, ha........the road to hell is paved with good intentions. I wonder what "the record" would reveal about the passage of the original amnesty law. Any concern at what a magnet this would create? Any thought at all???? ....... Beuller??????

They are stuffing them into centers for unaccompanied youths, normally teenagers. Now they're dealing with little kids that can't even understand their language unless someone speaks Portuguese.

Chris Hayes showed the letter with instructions that's given to parents who are searching for their kids, announcing them law breakers (illegals). They are beginning to fill already maxed out prisons now...

No no no, it's a law the Democrats enacted and the Reptilian controlled Congress and WH, who otherwise love nothing more than to block or undo Dem/Obama rules, are powerless to do anything about it. The poor victim's hands are tied, why not tie the ones of "others"...

There's a law that forbids arrest of children and that's why they can't legally detain families. That's it? They want to arrest the adults and that's why the kids have to be taken away? (And detained...)

That's the inherent problem with our current model of "democracy", isn't it? This left right march of bipartisan dictatorship. It's always the previous government's fault, and yet the current government - the one we hired to fix the problems caused by the previous government - always throw up their hands as if they are completely powerless and say blame them. Then proceed to ratchet those shitty laws to further consolidate their own power, whilst thinking up new schemes to make them and their buddies even more powerful and richer.

MM: well said, but I think it avoids the vicious fact that the right is better at it and in fact more dictatorial in their goals. aka: the left IS more democratic than the right. they could be MORE democratic than they are, but they are still way more democratic than the right. but there is that left right halting gait you have identified. We need to smooth that out......heh, heh...."get the politics out of government." Amusing.

Oh, you've got your moral authoritarians in every direction on an xyz graph.

Politicians always give with one hand, and take more with the other. These are invariable truths.

As I've been saying for decades, the solution is for people to vote for independent parties. The current bipartisan dictatorship loves the left-right march, because even when they're not technically in power, they're still getting paid, wield indirect power, and will be back in government next term.

When democracy was instituted, in that age of ideals, there were many different parties vying for election. Have a look at Wiki. It's only recently that "democracy" has settled into this two-party left-right system. And it's inimical to the function of democracy. That's why I call it a bipartisan dictatorship.

The only way to break the stride is to vote independent.

Well, I did some personal investigation into Tasmanian prostitution laws.

In Victoria, prostitution is perfectly legal at registered brothels. But of course there are some seedy joints, and seedy chicks walking the streets in certain areas of *ahem* St Kilda *ahem*. Yeah. Stick with the brothels.

Tasmania, brothels are illegal, but prostitution isn't. Organised prostitution is illegal. So no brothels.

But they're allowed to operate in pairs, like a pimp and a call girl, and will come to your hotel room.

And you'll find them in the back personal pages in the Mercury local paper.

It's a half-hour flight, or an overnight ferry ride betwixt.
