Battery died yesterday.

I wuz worried that it wuz sumthing way more serious, like a bad wire sumwhere in the charj serkit (big hassle to find) or sumthing broken in the enjin jamming it up. I hav and Optima battery, so it wuznt even on my list uv thingz that coud be rong wen it woudnt start, but then a jump start fired it rite up!

Later, I found that the battery iz 10 yirz old. I thot it wuz only 4 or 5. Even at 10, I'm suprized it wuz the culprit kuz I had wun in my truck that worked fine at 16.

I've gotten a bit out of control, but most of these have a purpose.

2004 Dodge diesel, 4x4
1983 Toyota pick up, 4x4
1968 Willys Army Jeep
1952 Chevy 6400 dump truck

Then there's my wife's 2005 Subaru and 2010 Toyota FJ

And you could count the Kubota tractor, the Yamaha 4 wheeler, and the Lull 11 ton, all terrain forklift.

If I figure out how to post a photo from the iPad, I'll post one of the '52. It's in beautiful shape. I use it to drive to the dump once a month. It's rated for 4K pounds, but would probably do 6k pretty easy.

83 Toyota has the straight front axle, which is desirable amongst off road enthusiasts. My father in law just offered to give me back the 2005 Tacoma I sold him. It had 42 k on it when I sold it to him. It has 45 k on it now. Offered free, but I can't do that. And now I'm wondering what to do.

A rule uv thum with my car iz that thingz never get fixed on the 1st try and usually not the 2nd either.

The belt skreech iz back about az bad az befor. I'v alredy cranked up the tension too much, so hav a spare belt in the trunk. The next thing to try iz to make a bigger pulley. For this problem, that will be sumthing like 7+ attempts. If that duznt work, the only remaining fix iz to chanje to a toothed belt system.

The ignition problem returned yesterday, so chanjing the swich wuz a waste uv time & money. It mite be wun uv the stoopid little relay doohikyz in the fuze block. You need exactly 1 swich to perform the function uv turning on the ignition. Chrysler desided to include a seriez uv relayz/unspesified function devisez in the serkit just to make life difficult for me.

Are you sure it's the belt, and not the water pump?

I'm never 100% sure uv anything on this car. The same belt spinz the water pump & fan az well az the power steering, so its possible the grip iz being overloaded at the main enjin pulley rather than the ps pump. In any case, titening the belt alieviates the skreech. I assume its the belt getting streched out over time that bringz the skreech back.

Increasing the pully diameter will reduse the tork needed to spin the pump. Hopefuly, making it 2 inchez bigger will be enuf, but not so much that the steering gets too stiff at idle.

I have the brake shoes off of the Chevy. They're down in Pueblo being resurfaced, as they aren't available new anymore. ETA: who the {!#%@} knows. Meanwhile, I pulled the wheels right in front of the gate to my yard and there it sits. Full of trash, and I need to get a load of fines with it to set a patio for a porch I built last year.

I built a timber entry, but they hadn't picked out the pavers they wanted. Now they have the pavers, but the brakes went out on the Chevy. So, when I get brakes done, I dump trash, then go to the gravel pit and get the sand.

Fine by me.

Jack was fined for selling fines mislabelled as the finest, when they were actually only fine rather than coarse fines. The court had a fine laugh when he attempted to fool the judge by reading the fine print on the package. Finally, after accidentally soiling the barrister's finery when fines sifted from a fine crack, Jack was sentenced to summary execution.

No, a real mallet.

Not long after I founded ZOL inc. I made 100 mallets like the wun on that paje ( exept therez no 'NOOALF' inscribed on it) az a simple product to sell.

I never sold any! Gave up trying after a wile and hav been giving them away to frendz & aquaintensez over the yirz.

You know that plastic lumber made from resycled milk jugz? I had that company run me several sizez in brite blue for the mallet project and the workbench project.

Ah, I see it. Sure. That's a good idea, I hadn't thought of plastic. I have a mallet I made from hickory, one made from some tropical wood made in Japan, and one of rawhide . I can pm some info, and we can work it out.

I got my drywall hung today, gonna tape it tomorrow, then head home. I'm hoping the brake shoes for the Chevy are ready. I need to get that on the road. I'm also getting a carb rebuilt for the Toyota, then getting the fuel system redone on the Dodge. I had an Airdog aftermarket pump and filtration system hooked up, but a couple winters ago it failed, fuse I think. But if the lift pump goes, it can burn out the injector pump. So I pulled over and hooked up the stock pump and filter. Didn't think to check the fuse at the time, and never bothered to re hook everything else back up. But it's a better system, and I have a rattle that indicates that I'm sucking air, now.

I have a tuner on the Dodge, ton of power, and better fuel mileage. I'm getting 25 mpg out of this truck, if I stay out of the pedal. But I have plenty passing power when I need it.

Thats good milaj.

I get 9 or 10 mpg theze dayz. If I ever hav the $$, I'll convert my car to fuel injection and probably dubl that. Or if I ever hav the real $$$$$$$, I'll convert it to electric.

Converting to fuel injection is a couple grand, I think. After all the carb problems I've had, I've been thinking about it. Hoping for the best on this carb, though. I like the idea, perhaps my survivalist BS coming through, of not needing a computer to run the Toyota if I need it.

Latest on power steering belt skreech.

My naybor Tony iz a scrapper - Drivez around and picks up stuff with metal in it that peepl are throwing away and cashez it in. Sunday he gave me a power steering pump he found. Its the same basic unit I payed 200$ for exept the mounting stud on the back iz absent and it haz a 2 groove pulley. AND ITS BRAND NEW! Az if sumwun bot it and never got around to installing it. Maybe they rekt the car it wuz for?

The 2 groov pulley iz good newz kuz it meanz that my pump iznt malfunctioning. They expect a single belt to probably not be enuf.

The possible bummer iz that I may hav been able to take that pulley off and find a 2 groov pulley for the fan insted uv paying 102$ for a 7075 aluminum disk to make a bigger diameter pulley. The cost uv not being sykik.

Old Man Emu is just a brand of off-road suspension. I haven't found the full set, yet. I can find the rear springs and shocks on eBay,.

I found a full set of Skyjacker suspension, but two reasons I won't buy it. First, it's a ridiculous amount of lift, but second, I bought a steering stabilizer from them for the Dodge, and they sent Jesus propaganda with it. I would have sent it back, but I needed it badly.,as mine was bent to hell.

I have a new power steering pump on the floorboard of the Toyota I bought for $60. All the parts for that thing are cheap.

I happened to notis the belt had twisted, wich meanz the re-enforsing fiberz are broken. I put the spare on and it didnt last 50 milez.

I wuz all the way out in Rockford yesterday so had to replase it to get home. I asked the guy at the auto part store for a hevy duty belt, but they only had 1 belt in stock that size. Fortunately, it wuz clearly much hevier than the bad belt, even tho it wuznt labeled az hevy duty. Not a hint uv skreech all the way home!

I'm going to wait on making a new pulley. If it holdz up for a month, I'll just put the factory dubl groove on and uze the aluminum for sumthing else.

I'v alwayz wanted to make a low profile rotary table for my milling machine.

I picked up the brake shoes for the '52, but they couldn't find the right spring. So I have to rig something. Hopefully I can get to it this weekend, I really need to dump it. I'm noticing a hydraulic leak to the dump bed, that's no good since the bed has to be up to fill the reservoir. Hopefully not too low for a couple more dumps.
