Beautiful. I like green cars. Can you do a sixty on a highway? Maybe not because it gets too windy on the inside and the wiper blades fall off? ;)

I don't know but I've heard the expression "that thing can do a hundred in three seconds" so I thought I'll be smart and pretend I know things about cars and ask you if you can do sixty, maybe in three minutes as well, eh? Well, can you punk?

Youv uncovered another quirk uv English. 'A hundred' meanz 'a hundred mph', yet 'a sixty' iz meaningless. You can say all the numberz that start with 1 exept 10 that way, but nothing else. The 'a' substitutes for '1'

'a hundred'
'a hundred and seventy three'
'a million'
'a trillion'

And it can only be the 1st number.

The main area that rusts iz behind the weel on the bottom, so like on the passenjer side, I cut it off and made a stainless steel replasement.
DS FeNDR 2 S.jpg

Next thing iz to remoov az much rust az I can then hit the rest with rust converter paint, then cover the entire inside with cold galvanize paint.

I'm also going to re-enfors it with carbon fiber.

Its a nise metalic medium green. Goez good with gold, but therez almost no gold* on the car. The only thing iz the name bajez. If I ever deside to make it pretty, I'd ad gold**.

If you saw it up close, within 10 ft, youd think it wuz painted by a drunk amatuer. There are 3 runz and an area thats thin enuff to see a hint uv the primer. It wuz the 1st use uv a spray gun I got on Ebay. Works great, especially considering it wuz only 27 buks brand new, but I still dont hav a feel for how much paint it puts down. Plus, If it wuz perfect it woudnt match the rest uv the car.

My fave color iz blue & the hood iz from the 2nd New Yorker I owned. I still hav the orijinal green hood from this car in good condition.

*Not the metal, the color! So dont be sneaking over here ripping junk off damit!
**still just the color! So dont be reading about me winning the lotto and thinking 'all that gold on hiz car iz real gold so I'm gunu grab it!'

any experience with what auto companies are using now ? electro and continuous galvanized steel , easier to work with ?

stainless would be really stiff ?

I didnt think theyd evr uze galvanized steel. They like rust!

Back in the 80z I made rear fenderz for my 2nd New Yorker out uv galvanized steel. It worked OK, so thats wut I'll probably do on this wun.

316 stainless iz harder than plain steel, but still formable with the same toolz. The only drawback iz its very expensiv.

I think all car companies are using electro or hot dipped galvanized now .
its much better / lighter than the stuff from the 70s .

I am surprised someone isn't selling the stuff to the general public .
steelmills scrap tons of the stuff that does not come out perfect .

side note - cars that have paint peeling off - that's because the zinc coating was not put on right .
zinc bath / solution too much acid

side side note - all aluminum ford truck uses galvanized steel for the hood frame .
wish I could find a picture of how much steel is used in that truck

and causes for rusting - not all is coated on both sides .
sometimes with egl coating - it does not stick
any break thru - from a rock or ?
also had or still have problems with welds

Therez a 92 Imperial for sale cheap near me. 500 buks, broken enjin.

I'm only mildly interested in having backup vehicle and this sertainly woudnt be a solid choise, but still, I'm curious, so started looking into the model.

I found this: http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/2013/06/junkyard-find-1992-chrysler-imperial/

Nothing uv jeneral interest in a 4 yir old post about an unremarkable car in a junkyard. Wuts noteworthy iz a reply.

Summicron rote:

Bingo.
There’s one next door as I post this.

One thing that won’t seem significant to those who join the spit-fest against this car is that it was marketed at exactly the right time to be a lifetime reward for the last generation of cradle-to-grave High Blue Collar Americans.

It, Caddys and Lincolns were all they’d consider. And as they’d worked hard, long and lived frugally all their lives, the price, and the fact that they could easily afford it, only made having one all the sweeter.

That’s the America that has died, as did my neighbor Ed, a machinist, three weeks ago. Requiescat in pace.

That describez my dad very closely. He also died in 2013. He got himself a 93 Concord az hiz retirement reward.

$%&(#@!

Got a power steering pump for over 200 buks, then made a nise bracket for it kuz it's not the standard pump for my car, all to solve a screeching belt problem I'v had for yirz.

PoWR STIRING S.jpg

Didnt work! Belt still screechez!

I had figured the problem wuz that the pressure limiter in the pump wuznt working. Unfortunately, the only company offering pumps iz Cardone. They yank components out uv junk yard carz, dip them in black paint, stick them in boxez and ship them to auto part storez.

Or they used to. Now, sins theyv been around for 30 yirz, they hav a good stock uv exchanjed 'core' parts sent in by their customerz, so the alternator, windshield wiper motor, starter, power steering pump or wutever that you sent in last yir iz probably sitting on a shelf at O'Rielly's waiting for the next chump to waste hiz time installing, only to discover that it haznt been rebilt at all.

Even tho a Cardone pump woud hav been only 40$ or 50$ and woud hav bolted rite in,therez no way they woud hav remachined the spool valv bore and installed a matched diameter spool valve, wich iz wut needz to be dun to fix the problem.

Now I'm wondering if its kuz my enjin pulley iz glazed too smooth, or if the new pump haz the same problem!

Fixed the skreeech!!!! :)
IMG_3960 copy.jpg

I uzed a Dremel with a cut-off weel to produse a ruff surfase in the V-groov wile the enjin wuz running. Only took about 30 secondz. Also skuffed up the water pump/fan pulley and the power steering pulley with sand paper.

Nise to be able to uze pedal to the metal akseleration without worrying about breaking the belt. It actually feelz more powerful, possibly kuz the pressure relief valve openning lowerz the tork being robbed by the pump to a lower level than wutever the tork limit the slipping belt wuz holding it at.
