The "good enough" edge is as far away as we can see. There's stuff beyond that, but it's so far away that the light from that distance will never reach us due to the expansion of space.

There is evidence that everything is reacting to a gravity source beyond that "edge". The gravity is too far away to affect us now, but at an earlier time when everything in the universe was much closer together, there may have been something massive "way over there" that gave everything a distinct tug in a specific direction and we're all still coasting towards it.

I am sure we're talking past each other here.

Maybe we're talking to the people standing behind each other.

I troll these non dual morons once in awhile, I lie to make them think I'm affected by their BS, it's all a religious propaganda they promote as if they were making a "revolution" using shitty psychology, but they're just a bunch of lazy ass hippies eating cheetos and promoting their own religious garbage, the psychological shitty attempt to brainwash people into a depersonalized state, but all the psychological tactics was thought by them before they started promoting it, and they even say that they aren't "doing" anything, HAHA, it's funny how they contradict themselves. Facebook is full of these idiots. You can only troll them and make them think you are a "fragile" gulible idiot who is brainwashed by them, then you penetrate in the group and start seeing the ridiculous psychology they do with other people,

Just like the idiot above "Come to the dark side" hurr durr "I think I'm doing a evil psychology in you, but I'm just a lazy ass frustrated socialist"

We Are Here: http://www.basicknowledge101.com/photos ... sample.png

And while we are in orbit around the centre of the Milky Way, we are also wobbling up and down through the plane of the galactic disc, like this: https://icravescience.com/wp-content/up ... lation.jpg

Currently our solar system is considered to be "above" the galactic plane by between 75 and 100 light years, and on the "downward" slope of our wobble. However, the galactic disk is estimated to be approximately 1000 light years thick, so we are not on the edge in that regard either.

Mate, I accept, at face value what you are saying, but my understanding is that the Universe is expanding at a fast rate, but is doing so horizontally. That being so, how do you justify your assertion that we are wobbling up an down by 75 - 100 light years?

Perhaps what you are saying is, that given the galactic disk is 1000 light years thick, we are only breaking the horizontal field by an amount within the confines of the said 1000 light years?? Therefore we are still expanding horizontally, although there are fluctuations within that given parameter?

That's a new one on me, Phoenix. My understanding is that the universe is as near as dammit isotropic and is expanding at the same rate in all directions.

The expansion of the universe wasn't part of what I was talking about. I'm just talking about the orbit of our Sun around the centre of the Milky Way.

It's similar to the way the planets orbit the Sun. They're all on basically the same plane, but there is some deviation. Some planets' orbits take them first above the plane, then below it, as they orbit the Sun.

Here's a website that explains the idea with pictures: https://medium.com/starts-with-a-bang/a ... 70245c8743

Even though the orbits of the planets vary by only 2° (excluding Venus, which varies by 7° 'cause it's a dick), that still amounts to millions of miles. If we apply the same scale to the galaxy, that would be...uhhh...maths involved, head hurts now. Well, it's in light years, anyway.

(Note that the "inclination to the ecliptic" on that website are all relative to Earth, so Earth's deviation from itself is automatically 0.)

But more importantly, there's another factor that causes the Sun to wobble up and down through the galactic plane: The gravity of the rest of the Milky Way. This article shows a nice picture: http://www.nature.com/news/did-dark-mat ... rs-1.14839

And a quote from the article:

...As the Sun follows the swirling motion of the Galaxy's arms, circling around the galactic centre, it also moves up and down, periodically crossing the plane that cuts the Galaxy into a top and a bottom half like the two bread slices in a sandwich....

Mmmm, sandwich analogies....

That's a really hard question. The universe is expanding in all directions, but by simply saying that, it suggests the universe has edges when it probably doesn't.

there is nothing expanding., it's all empty space without edges. this expanding BS comes from kabbalists and their agenda, trying to make seem like as if reality was "fluid" and empty space also "fluid". BS, space is nothing, empty. Actually most of the science is being ruined by kabbalists and their BS trying to distort physics. Try another forum. This sort of crap is not appropriate on our science based forum.

You are displaying racial prejudice by pretending good scientific evidence by one scientist is somehow tainted because of that person's background, knowing all scientists, of any background, can reproduce that evidence, under the scientific method.

Speaking of expanding, Book TV had a good discussion from a panel of experts on "Time." some interesting insights and issues:

Is time actually a dimension or rather a human construct.

Is our sensation/perception of time wholly different from time itself.

Is time anything other than the smallest event one from the previous that can be observed or thought about.

Its hard to imagine a universe, or our existence in less than 3 dimensions plus time...but multiple dimensions can easily be contemplated.........with cause and effect, chemical reactions, taking place on higher membranes than the 3 spatial ones we live in now.

The concept of time has changed. First real wide experience was first cinemas where it was recognized that film could be run forward and backward. Another was the first recognition of "reaction time" which was not really appreciated...trying to set clocks showed this to be an issue.

Time does slow down down as one approaches the speed of light/(and/or===it wasn't clear) high gravitational fields. This is a mindblowing totally proven fact.....how far to apply it is being investigated.

The arrow of time is an effect of entropy. The beginning of the Universe was highly "ordered." ===>I never have understood how a mass of super hot primary particles is "ordered" in any way. I think its the common language use of order than has me completely not getting it. A wine glass shattered into pieces?? OK I can accept entropy there and that the Wine Glass never "reassembles" although nothing in physics says it can't. ......oops.......one speaker did say there are examples of "lowering entropy"....and now I forget if that was limited to the sub-atomic level or not. Lots in the sub atomic world seem to have little to do at larger scales????

My take away: pass the next beer.
